(Note: I wrote this song lyric around 1990, inspired by the Leighton painting above, a favourite at the time. I imagine the song to have a dreamy, jazz-tinged feel. Its irregular lines follow a jazzy melody I’ve had in my head ever since I wrote the words. Each month is the name of a different kind of woman.)
Flaming June
January, well she just
leaves me cold
February, that girl does not do
March, she makes me shiver
all the time that she’s near me
Oh just give me Flaming June
April will not ever come to see me
May, well yes she may, but seldom so
July she is far too hot to touch
Hey, just lay it on me, Flaming June
Chorus:
Flaming June, she like a luscious fever … (repeat three times)
August, she’s just not my sort of lady
September, well she never seems to care
October is so lovely
but she is always so untrue
Come on, honey, come here, Flaming June
Chorus:
Flaming June, she’s like a luscious fever … (repeat three times)
November loves to Bosa Nova
but the party’s over for her
December comes and goes just as she pleases
Of all the girls I know
there is just one I love
Her name is like a tune,
it’s Flaming June

Terrific lyrics KD, and yes I think they lend themselves to a jazzy sound. Fab image.
Thanks, Col.
Excellent to hear from you about this lyric, given your love and appreciation of jazz.
