Almanac Music: Dream Golden Dreams (Song Lyric)

Kevin Densley playing acoustic guitar in the bedroom of his family home, circa 1983. (Marilyn Monroe on wall in the background.)
Dream Golden Dreams (A Lullaby)
Slowly close your eyes
Dream and float away
You’ll feel no tension
With your cares in suspension till day.
Let your spirit drift
On the moonlit bay
The stars are reflected
Their light is directed your way
Dream golden dreams
Let yourself be pacified
Let yourself be satisfied
Dream golden dreams dear one
On the sea tonight
In the cooling air
Your joy can’t be madness
As there shan’t be sadness to bear
In this place of dreams
You can touch the sky
But take heed – a warning
Another morning is nigh
Yet dream golden dreams
Let yourself be pacified
Let yourself be satisfied
Dream golden dreams dear one
(As published in Deakin Uni’s Student newspaper, Planet, 1981)

Ah! Portrait of the artist as a young troubadour …
Very ‘moving’ KD. Can’t say I’ve ever seen or heard the word ‘shan’t’ in a song lyric (but I’m sure there are a-plenty). When I run out of Dylan cover articles, (2032), I might revisit my first attempts at song lyrics from the early/mid 70’s.
When ‘moving’ is put in quotes, I’m not sure what you mean, Karl, but I’ll take it in a positive way! Whatever else this lyric is, it’s certainly full of youthful, romantic feeling. I wrote it when I was about eighteen.
