Almanac Music: Alvin Youngblood Hart
One of the great joys of travelling to New Orleans for JazzFest is of course the music but an even greater joy is the discovery of new music, and much of this music is to be found in the small clubs that abound in the French Quarter and its periphery.
I first saw Alvin Youngblood Hart performing with Jimbo Mathus and Luther Dickinson as an acoustic group named South Memphis String Band at DBA’s on Frenchman’s. They played good old timey, traditional string band music, and they were absolutely fantastic. Alvin has played with both Jimbo and Luther in various formats, as duos or in bands. All are versatile musicians playing multiple instruments in various styles and genres.

Alvin is probably best known for his blues playing, in particular country blues. On my last visit to New Orleans I caught Alvin at JazzFest with his band playing some good old fashioned blues in his inimitable style.
I hope you enjoy the music of Alvin Youngblood Hart.
