Almanac Music: a hospital, a husband, a Van Morrision love song

There’s only one way to take a diagnosis of cancer in our family, writes Lucia Nardo in her latest Stereo Story. You get on with it.

But the day of Martin’s  surgery, I’m not getting on with it very well. As Martin prepares to go into theatre, he and I can’t meet each other’s gaze. I don’t want him to see my anxiety and he never wants me to witness his. We know those unwritten rules.

Visit our partner site Stereo Stories to read about Martin and Lucia, prostate cancer, and a Van Morrison love song.

Coming soon: stories inspired by songs by The White Stripes and Weddings Parties Anything, and a poem, set on the Yarra River in Warrandyte, about the day John Lennon died.

Beautifully written Lucia. Where were you when I wanted to try script writing ten years ago?
Just a wonderful advertisement for your craft. So personal and all readers will be wishing your husband has a speedy recovery.
Loved the way you referred back to your Van Morrison wedding song. When you said, ” I don’t want him to see my anxiety and he never wants me to witness his “, I thought of another appropriate song between long-term partners.
” You say it best, when you say nothing at all “.
