Almanac (Local) Footy: Ainslie Women’s Division 2 – Round 5

The fear of Ainslie supporters
is that Lions have come for a slaughter
But don’t be too glum,
the Tricolours won!
(When you discount the first quarter)

Riverina Lions were the premiers of the 2019 UNSW Canberra Regional Women’s competition. They finished top of the ladder with an eye-watering percentage of 1171.70 from 14 wins and 1 loss.

Ainslie had come close against Belconnen the previous week, but Riverina represented an even greater challenge.

At quarter time, it was 0 to 20 and it seemed like Riverina would cruise to a 10+ goal win. However, Ainslie dug in and made them work for it, winning the next quarter and managing to keep the final margin to just 19. Left to rue what might have been, if not for the first quarter, it was another honourable loss for Ainslie.

Ainslie Tricolours  0.0  1.1  2.1  3.4 – 22
Riverina Lions  3.2  3.2  4.3  6.5 – 41
