Almanac Life: Well my angels

It’s been a big year. I started with two angels and now I have three. Who’d have thought?

Brodie Allanah Kaye [aka Sweet or Maggott depending on my mood], where did nine years go?  So fast!  You are such a big girl now and soon to go into Grade 4 and you continue to embrace and live life to the fullest. I love how you give your best at everything you do and I smile at your occasional disappointment when it doesn’t always go to plan. Importantly, you get up, brush yourself off and have another crack, as that’s what life is about. You continue to look out for those less fortunate than you  and engage and include them. You are a bit of a favourite with your teachers but as you tell everyone, family, school and dancing are your happy places. Never ever forget your happy places, beautiful girl, wherever life takes you and continue to light up every room you walk into.

Now for some advice. It’s impressive you can spell gullible to me when you set Mitchell off on a stupid task but you are about six months away from Mitch not being  gullible and when that occurs he may well give you a big wack. If I’m umpiring that day the call will be ‘nothing to see there, play on.’

Of course, you know you are my favourite.

Mitchell William Kaye [aka George or Turd depending on my mood]. Wow, after all the trepidation about you starting school, you sailed through Prep and are off to Grade 1. You are the ultimate glass-half-full man. It cracks me up when you tell your teacher and anyone else who will listen, including the lollypop lady after school, ‘this has been the best day ever.’  It’s fair to say you have had a better season than your favourite Bulldog Jack McCrae but it bemuses me how you can be first in line to come out of class and invariably come out last. Yep, that’s a combination of wanting to tell your class mates ‘this has been the best day ever ‘ compounded by forgetting to pack your jumper or your water bottle. Continue to grow and thrive Mitch, retain your glass-half-full attitude and rest assured it will be play on the day you finally wake up to your sister’s manipulation of your gullibility .

The world is your oyster especially if you grow a bum to hold your shorts up.

Of course, you know you are my favourite .

Charlie Hayden Dickson [aka Neville], what a joy you have been in your eight months in our presence. You are not quite as robust as your near namesake at Port Adelaide but just as determined. It is clearly apparent you are an advanced and gifted child. Well that’s what your Nan tells everyone. I expect to be picking you up from university or pre-season training at an AFL Club sometime in the next five years. Just a word of advice, I don’t care if your dad represented Scotland in Rugby Union, I will be disowning you if bum-sniffing becomes your preferred sport. Heaven forbid you could end up a Wallaby and the shame on the family would be irretrievable. I love the happiness you have brought to the wider family but I especially love how you have made your mum so happy. Keep on punching Charlie boy.

Of course, you know you are already my favourite.

Truth is you are all my favourites as the tonic of life is the innocent laughter and unconditional love of children. Sail on in 2024, my angels.

Fab read Hayden. There is something special about grandkids, I have five and they all have unique characteristics in them and they bring me much joy. Though, one thing I’m noticing is how quickly they grow!
