Almanac Life: State of mind? Or genuinely funny?

Last night the kids invited me to their movie night. In the loungeroom.

The movie: Johnny English – the third one I think. When Johnny is the only secret agent left.

Popcorn as starters. Then profiteroles.

Not sure if it is my state of mind, but I thought it was really funny.

And I’d like to mention this very funny line:

Ophelia Bhuletova: I’m not sure I’ve ever met a man quite like you, Basil.
Johnny English: Let me clear up the uncertainty for you. ….You haven’t.

Is Johnny English as funny as I found it?

  1. Watched some of that myself. I think Rowan Atkinson would be funny reading the news.

Its a bit of a one trick pony, slap stick humour but it is funny.

The number of genuinely funny people is reducing. Too many agendas and not enough jokes. Look up Billy Connolly telling the joke about running over the cat. Hope its on You Tube. Its one of those jokes that repeats on you. Days later! Like an Indian curry.

    Love Rowan Atkinson.

I’ve watched all of Ken Burns’ docos. He is brilliant. Vietnam was superb abd thorough but gruelling.Have tried to watch Country Music on the sbs site but it always plays up.

  5. Ken Burns on Baseball (a social as much as sporting perspective – particularly around race); the American Civil War; Jazz and Prohibition all magnificent. You can stream some of them on different platforms. Baseball is on YouTube.

You bet, an hilarious line! The Johnny English flix are great fun.
We found some old clips of Steve Martin on the Johnny Carson show. High time to revisit ‘Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid’, ‘The Jerk’ and ‘The Man With Two Brains.’

  7. Rick Kane says

High time indeed Earl. Don’t forget All of Me as well.

Funny is as funny does. Laughing is both individual and collective, in as many patterns of demographic correlations as can be imagined. Every laugh and playtime with loved ones should be banked (and if only we could tally our account, now that would be capital worth its weight in gold) as the interest on it repays forever.

    Cheers
