Almanac Life: Old Dog, the kid, a footy, the roof!

The Roof

She kicks,
I badger her a bit.
“Hold it down more, straight lines.
Watch it.”
She kicks again. It gets to me.

“That’s it.”

She kicks again.

“Don’t throw your hands
about.”

It goes over me,
onto the roof.
Catches on the guttering.

Her first footy stuck on
the roof!

It brings a tear to this
old footballer’s eyes.

We just stand there, watching it.

An extremely proud moment
for us both.

    Love it Old Dog.

Already this summer we’ve had ball-on-roof scenarios – the best was tennis ball on shed roof during Christmas afternoon cricket. Took some thinking, a rake, a ladder and a number of cousins to work through.

  2. Damian Balassone says

Ah, Old Dog, the absolute joy of it!
