Almanac Horseracing – Sal’s Preview: One week closer
Greetings All,
Are we getting out of this …..
Royal Randwick
Good to have the country race first-up at Randwick so we can finish our lunch! Then watch Outrageous (R2, #6) and Rubisaki (R3, #2) in the next couple. The Derby winner Quick Thinker (R4, #1) will be hard to beat, but worth considering Chuck A Luck (R4, #6) coming off a different form line.
Race 5 – Champagne Stakes (G1, 1600m, 2YO SW)
The babies stretch out to the mile, Maher-Eustace have Holyfield (4) set for this and won nicely with Tom Marquand on last start, that combination has been pretty effective lately. King’s Legacy (1) coming off a win in the Sires is good form for this and Ole Kirk (6) ran well in that race also. Untamed (5) has won over this journey and also rates a chance.
Selections – 4-1-6-5
Shared Ambition (R6, #5) can kick the quaddie off.
Race 7 – All Aged Stakes (G1, 1400m, WFA)
The sprinters stretch out to 1400m and collide with the milers in the last Group 1 of The Championships. It is also a clash of the three-year-olds against the older horses, leaning towards the young brigade and the sprinter in Bivouac (11) who has won over the distance at his only attempt. Super Seth (13) is well drawn and gets the services of JMac looks up to this and Brandenburg (12) comes off a terrific run in the Doncaster. Of the older brigade Santa Lane (2) beat but a superstar in the TJ and Star of the Seas (7) coming off 2nd in the Doncaster should go well but is drawn poorly. Great field and could have everything wrong here.
Selections – 11-13-12-2
GSOB has a great hand in the next, interesting runner is Deep Image (R8, #12) Rob Heathcote having a crack here first up. GSOB also has a couple in the last and will be watching the second seed in Rainier (R9, #8)
Caulfield
A few shorties early but the end of the day is much tougher. Happy to be on Jumbo Ozaki (R1, #6) in the opener but really need to watch for any patterns with Caulfield playing well for the front runners lately. Twitchy Frank (R2, #1) is very consistent, then Pippie (R3, #2) but will be a pretty short price. Mr Quickie (R4, #1) will also be short hasn’t won since June last year, happier to risk on Grand Crown (R4, #5). Race 5 is a raffle could even entertain So Si Bon (R5, #3).
If that is a raffle, then the two-year-old race is even tougher. Cornucopia (R6, #16) was the flashing light run at Bendigo but is drawn the very outside, River Night (R6, #10) has consistent form but the Quaddie will be wide here. If leaders are dominating the Runson (R7, #7) will be on the pace and hard to get past. Will take a great ride by B Melham for Broadwayandfourth (R8, #2) but was terrific first up and the stablemate Moonlight Maid (R9, #8) is the pick in the last.
Elsewhere a great race in Adelaide for the fillies where Snap Dancer is the pick (R8, #6)
