Almanac Games: Wordle – a fun new word game

Like many, I’m caught up in the new word puzzle craze called Wordle sweeping the world at the moment.

Wordle is a web-based puzzle that requires players to guess a valid five-letter word in six tries or less. After each guess, the colour of the tiles will change to show how close your guess was to the word. Everyone is given the same word daily, and after 24 hours, the word changes.

  1. Colin Ritchie says

My wife beat me today, 4 turns to 5. Competition hotting up for tomorrow morning!

  2. Play Wordle golf Colin. Can play across 72 days!

    4 – par
    3 – birdie
    2 – eagle.

  3. Peter Flynn says

I think Wordle is slightly farcical.
    Played a few games.
Luck plays too much of a role for mine.
    It’s embarrassing to get 2/6.
    Anyway each to their own.

  4. Peter Flynn says

Try RAISE or ARISE first for example.

    ADIEU is popular.

    Another tactic is VCVCV.

Cover the five vowels in the first 2 guesses.

If there’s a shortage of vowels, a Y could be in play.

    OU seems prevalent.

The game is based on information theory which is related to entropy.
