The Footy Almanac project started life as a platform for keen writers who put together free-spirited reports of AFL matches. These were put together as an anthology: The Footy Almanac 2007.
The following year, the number of contributors trebled and, to accommodate everyone who wanted to write, we established this website in 2009.
Over the years, contributors have cast their eyes more widely, and we now publish stories on many topics.
Of course, footy has never stopped bubbling away.
This footy season we’re going to try to post a piece of writing generated by each AFL match, and any other matches at local level. The best way to generate a full coverage is to allocate games to keen writers before the start of the round.
If you would like to nominate a game (any round) you’d like to write about please let us know and we’ll add you to the schedule.
In particular, we’re looking for writers for Opening Round and Round 1. The games are listed below.
Just send an email to John Harms: [email protected]
I’ll be helped in this process by the Almanac editors, especially Peter Clark, who will be known to readers from his annual footy-history-travel columns.
If all this goes well, which we believe it will, we will publish the traditional anthology – hopefully in time for Christmas.
Over to you…
