Barossa Park, Lyndoch.
And so the footy world has arrived in South Australia, and the Barossa is buzzing.
Everything is prepared and locals and visitors are out and about. The streets of Tanunda were busy yesterday, people dodging council workers putting up bunting and erecting marquees. At the supermarket, the checkout chicks had their footy jumpers and scarves on – far too many Hawthorn colours for my liking.
There are so many events on here today and across the weekend – to complement the footy.

And the regular (free) footy buses will get you all around the Barossa.
I was at the Tanunda Footy Club to hear Neil Balme and Luke Hodge on Wednesday night. Both were excellent – and pretty open. Apart from some terrific yarns (Hodge on 2008 was brilliant, sadly) and concerns about the rules, the most significant moment was when I was reminded that Luke Hodge has four sons!
Let’s just hope the weather holds. Where has the reliable autumn sun gone? Spasmodic squally Melbourne brolly weather is forecast and one of those showers is just passing through.
Quite a few Almanac types will be in the Barossa across the weekend. Some are staying here.
Apart from at the games themselves, the most efficient way for Almanac visitors to catch up is at the Tanunda Street Party which follows the North-Brisbane game on Saturday and will continue well into the night. Family Harms will be wandering around. The spot to settle in for a quiet one is The Tanunda Clubhouse which is one block behind the main street. You can’t miss it.
Give me a call if you are about: 0417 635030.
The Tanunda Club is now an Almanac sponsor. It’s a terrific place to stay, it has a welcoming front bar, and an excellent menu (which includes some traditional Grman fare). It’s a real family pub, owned by the community, which has been going since 1891.
Hope to see you in the Barossa.

Enjoy JTH. The carnival is in town. Hope the weather does its best.
Excellent. I’ll be at Lyndoch oval tomorrow. First time since one of the Hutton twins took a hat-trick for Kapunda in about 1986. Hoping to cross paths with folks.
