Almanac Footy: An Ode to Collingwood

What do I love about this club?

The optimism before every game no matter how worthy the opponent.

The chatter amongst your friends during the week.

The flurry of social media posts in readiness.

The layering of black and white merchandise.

The commute to the ground.

The march to the seats.

The build-up to the start of the game.

The centre-clearance burst.

Them first goal vibes.

The high-pressure football.

The rage of a free kick against.

The us against the world mentality.

The crucial intercept mark.

The big contested grab.

The second-half fight back.

The never-say-die attitude.

The lunging tackle.

The last-gasp goal.

The roar from the crowd.

That jump out of your seats in unison.

The slow Collingwood chant.

The post-siren celebrations that continue on the concourse, and into the night.

The passionate rendition of the theme song.

The applause when the players do their lap of honour.

The re-collection of thoughts and composure in the aftermath.

The high-fives and hugs from strangers sharing that one thing in common.

The ride home, made that extra bit sweeter with a victory.

The truth is I love everything about this club. The highs, the lows, the ups, the downs. The unwavering support rings true, no matter the situation. At the end of the day, I’m proud to say that I’m a Collingwood man.
