Almanac Documentaries: ABC Compass Rohingya Boy – Noor Kabir
Almanacker Brin Paulsen has co-directed a short documentary picked up by the ABC and will air this Sunday evening (4Sept ) on the ABC Compass program at 6.30pm.
The documentary is called Rohinga Boy and its about Noor Kabir – the world’s first Rohingya bodybuilding champion. Kabir’s story is incredible, he was born in a refugee camp in Bangladesh and came to Australia by himself as a teenager. He started working out at the gym and subsequently got involved with bodybuilding. He now dreams of, and is endeavoring to become, Mr Olympia.
In making the documentary, Brin and his associates were so fortunate that Kabir was open and willing to share his story, he proved to be such a great person, courageous, motivated and committed to turning himself into a role model for his people.
Brin believes the doco shares some commonality with the Footy Almanac – drawing on the power of sport to engage people on issues they may never previously considered. Kabir’s story is ultimately one of hope – a truly universal concept.
