Almanac Cricket: Second Test – Aust v WI: Day 4 – Citrus Bob’s report: The tooth finally extracted!
ADELAIDE DAY 4
THE TOOTH FINALLY EXTRACTED
In one of the most painful cricket exhibitions ever seen at the Adelaide Oval the final tooth has been extracted from the West Indies.
Not long for the first injection and Thomas slashes, no better word, at Starc and Carey, having a good match, made no mistake. Why slash in the early overs?
Answer. The Windies can’t leave Adelaide and Australia quick enough. Terrible shot.
Da Silva (the new breed) and Holder (the old soldier) will not give in as easy. Unfortunately Holder gets a ripper from Starc and is beaten all ends up. West Indies 6/49 and Starc 3/15.
For the crowd these have been painless extractions and only four more and it will be complete.
The big news around town to day is the resignation of the Chairman of CA Dr. Lachlan Henderson for business reasons. Methinks the good doctor could not have times it better what with the sandpapergate still rolling along, dissatisfaction by cricket purists and the public in general. The sheer hypocrisy of the International Cricket Council with their futures program and the disharmony that seems to exist within the CA from the top down. God luck Doc!
Carey playing the role of the juggler gets Chase from the bowling of Neser. That was a fine take standing up from a quick bowler.
De ja vu
In the same over another great catch standing up this time Da Silva. Joseph then takes a big swing from Lyon and the teeth are teetering with only one wicket to fall.
‘Caught Carey bowled Neser’ as another fantastic catch this time diving to his right for a one hander in front of Warner. His fifth extraction for the innings to end the game.
Australia win by 419 runs with Starc, Neser and Boland all bowling beautifully.
So ends I am afraid to say, the most uninterested, uninspiring series ever seen. It was doomed from the start just like the games against the Poms after the World Cup. Not the fault of the Windies they are trying to rebuild just point the finger at the ICC.
The schedulers need to take a very hard look at themselves if they are hopeful of retaining the interests of Australian sporting crowds and in particular the cricket aficionados.
I think I said this on day one ‘not happy Jan’.
