Almanac (Ashes) Poetry: ‘Jonny’s walk’ – Bill Wootton

Jonny’s walk

One fine day Jonny decided to go for a walk

and maybe do a spot of gardening on the way.

Something must have prompted him

What might that thought have been?

All pitch performers step out of course

but it’s a matter of when to project those toes.

Jonny ambled on as if no lines mattered

And the gloved sniper rattled his triple.

Accusations, defences, moralising followed,

so many of us having Jonny moments.
