AFLW Round 4 – Brisbane v Adelaide: The Erin Phillips Show
Brisbane v Adelaide
12:10pm, Sunday February 21
Hickey Park
Adelaide needed to respond. After being comfortably beaten by Fremantle last week at home, they came into this game needing to make a statement against a Lions team yet to taste defeat this season.
Respond they did. It was driven by one person in particular; the superstar, super-human, inspirational Erin Phillips. Her four goals, especially the two she kicked in the first, proved more than enough for the Crows to get back on the winners list. Phillips kicked four out of Adelaide’s six total to go along with 21 disposals, eight marks, and a couple of tackles. Every game she plays it’s as if she’s only adding to her already established legacy as the best player in the competition and one of the best footy players in Australia.
In a team that consisted of other superb players like Anne Hatchard, who finished with 19 disposals, Ebony Marinoff with 28 and Chelsea Randall whose seven marks were second only to Phillips, Phillips still stood the tallest. When the occasion calls for it, the best rise up and that’s what Phillips did on Sunday. It was the Erin Phillips show, and it was a pleasure to witness.
As for the Lions, it was hardly a horrible loss and they’re still sitting pretty with three wins from the year so far. However, questions will start to be asked of where they deserve to sit in this year’s pecking order, considering they’ve only beaten the Tigers, Suns and Eagles this season to date. Adelaide was their first true test and they failed. It should be interesting to see how they respond next week, whoever it is they’ll play.
As for Adelaide, normality has returned after the Dockers debacle. No doubt, they’ll challenge for their third AFLW flag, with Phillips leading the way once more.

About Caspar McLeod
Third Culture Kid at Heart. Grew up in Asia, discovered footy at age 9. AFL has since been my burning passion. Ask me who were the winners all the grand finals between 1938 and last year's decider, and I'll be happy to tell you. I'm a footy nut with a passion for writing and acting. All though I love writing and acting, during the footy season, AFL is my true passion. Waiting ever so patiently for the day when Essendon Next win the flag.
Nice to see you back on the Almanac Caspar!
Phillips is just a force of nature, isn’t she Caspar? Even as a Lions fan I couldn’t get too mad watching her tear us a new one. May she play on for a few years to come!
