AFLW Round 1 – Collingwood v West Coast Eagles (Haiku Bob): A blaze of sunshine

first game —

the slap of thongs

through the turnstiles

blotches of red

this bushfire season —

blood rule

gusting summer wind

the little sounds

from the outer

smoke haze —

the crumber shimmies

to the wrong side of the pack

pigtailed —

a toddler colours in

the footy record

women’s footy

the old woman yells

“Holding the man!”

blaze of sunshine —

all the mouthguards

after her first goal

a train

pulls into the station

final siren

first win —

the same smile

on every girl’s face
