The night started early, watching the VFL
For the first three quarters all went well
But Footscray got right on top in the last
Our unbeaten start was now in the past
The evening was clear though tending to cool
But don’t trust the weather is the golden rule
The rain did come but was only a shower
Barely visible against the light tower
It was a milestone match of some import
300 for Blitz, latecomer to this sport.
Kolo is back and he’s up and about
A double ton for him, yep 200 not out
The Bulldogs had the best of the start
But from that point on their game fell apart
The Cats piled on six goals by the end of the quarter
A hint of what was to come, a 12-goal slaughter
With Edwards in the ruck the midfield was humming
Axe and Tanner winning clearances, Bailey was running
Danger kicked the first, good to have him back
Neale, Dempsey and Martin were on the attack
But on the top of the bill there was one star of the show
Jezza’s started this season a little bit slow
A broken arm will do that but tonight he caught fire
Two goals in the first and the count got higher
By half time he’d bagged a lazy seven
The Cats were purring, the fans were in heaven
The Dogs had no answers to the Cats’ onslaught
Then despite bad kicking we couldn’t be caught
Jack Martin had a ripper, he’s hard to contain
By the end of the night he had 3 goals to his name
Ollie Henry has definitely lifted his work rate
And Max Holmes can deliver the ball on a plate
The Dogs had a rough night, young Darcy a knee
Poor Libba was concussed, very sad to see
Oscar Baker and Astronaut kicked a few goals.
But Bontempelli went AWOL
What happened to the Bont? Was he lost in the Ocean?
No, he was tagged by young Irish Oisin
Meanwhile in the last the Cats again hit their straps
The midfielders feasting on Mitch Edwards’ taps
Jezza’s radar was locked right on target
A bag on a night he’ll never forget
But the highlight belonged to a different fellow
A goal kicked from 50 by a backman called Kolo.
Mobbed by his teammates, amidst the crowd’s mighty cheer
Celebrating the 5th goal of his 200-game career
Not to be outdone, with seconds left in the game.
Jezza took a hanger then had 10 to his name
It was a night to savour, a 12-goal thumping
That sent our percentage 15 points jumping
Blitz and Kolo were honoured, the fans sang in delight
The Cattery was abuzz on another great night
