early rain sweeps the ground and Pendlebury
autumn gust
Reid’s knee bends
the wrong way
autumn afternoon
the sound of Buddy’s goal
above the ‘G
half-time
rain clouds and hawks
circling
wave after wave…
Buddy leaps over one
to make another
falling leaves
losing our grip
on Rioli
rain still falling
the back six
losing its shape
sunbeams poke through our ghost-like defence
