2016 Autumn Racing in Australia

The spring Australian horse racing season brought the pageantry and excitement of the Caulfield Cup (won by Mongolian Khan), the Cox Plate (won by Winx) and the historic Melbourne Cup (won by Prince of Penzance) as well as a host of other top Group 1 events for older horses. After surviving the sunshine and heat of summer, the racing industry will turn its attention to the highly popular “Autumn Racing Carnival.”

About the Autumn Racing Carnival

Behind the excitement of the spring racing festivals dominated by races such as those mentioned above, the Autumn Racing Carnival provides the most exciting racing on the continent. The carnival is divided into three separate designated carnivals: Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival, Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival. In all, there are a total of 34 Group 1 stakes races held at seven of the top race courses in the country. It’s during this time of year that future superstars move to the forefront as 2-year-olds move into the spotlight.
