2015 ICC World Cup – New Zealand v South Africa Audio

World Cup Semi Final
Auckland, 24 March 2015
New Zealand won by 4 wickets

The pressure of expectation forces the best out of some and induces the most bizarre mistakes in others. This epic World Cup semi-final could have so easily gone to South Africa, but they choked. Such was the theatre of this classic, it had at least two Australian fans (Dad and I) jumping around the living room celebrating with the Kiwis. Don’t be shy – I bet you were too.

  1. I think it’s a trifle unfair to say they choked, ‘cos the Black Caps made just as many costly errors (although we did enjoy heckling them at every botched run-out and comically-dropped catch that they’d dropped the World Cup — and when I say ‘we’ I mean it as one of 40,000 who seemed to be heckling as one).

I reckon they played above themselves, but (if, as an NZ supporter I can say this as humbly as I can) were beaten by a better team on the night.

But it was epic! I’m still shaking here this morning.

PS: Thanks for the audio. Great to relive it.
