The Ashes – First Test: Cricket Snicks with Citrus Bob

CRICKET SNICKS with CITRUS BOB

  • Many thanks to those who have signed up to share the load for this Test series.

  • Dan Lonergan makes a welcome return and new comer Heather Lee will be looking after Days 2 and 3.

  • Cricket is a game of statistics and I found one on Day 1. The first time that two players with surnames starting with ST dominating a day of Test cricket.

  • All of a sudden ‘Old Joe’ is looking like old Joe and his batting has aged as well. Joe is number 655 and latest addition Jamie Smith’s number is 715. That means that sixty other players have made their debut  for England after Joe commenced.

  • Must confess I have been watching the AFLW between the Shinboners and the Fuchsias when it looked like being a boilover but Crock’s women turned the game around in the last stanza. Great crowd in attendance by the looks.

  • Talking of crowds just run your eyes over the English club flags. They really tell you who is here from ‘The Old Dart’. Eskdale, Open Arms Coventry, Hollymore, Dronfield Owls, Lord Toads XI to name just a few.

  • Would be a great exercise just to know how much the English visitors will spend in Oz during this tour. One chap I know of has been here since the start of October.

  • A chirpy little sparrow is Ben Duckett. Never fails to give his opponents words of advice. No wonder he played seconds cricket when he came to Australia to play a few years ago.

  • Guess what. SPD turns his gold collar up and, of course, so does Marnus. Peas in a pod those two.

  • If DRS takes so long then surely the batsman should be given the benefit of the doubt. In this case Jamie Smith. Must have been nearly 5 minutes.

  • Crowd have got their monies worth today but the WACA people won’t be happy that the game will end tomorrow one way or the other.

About Bob Utber

At 86 years of age Citrus Bob is doing what he has always done since growing up on a small farm at Lang Lang. Talking, watching and writing sport and in recent years writing books. 1. I played golf Saturday arvo. Travis Head is the only person who can go 0-100 faster than me.
On Wednesday I saw a mini bus of Barmy Army unsuccessfully trying to get tee times for next Tuesday or Wednesday at our course. Can you let them know that Monday tee times are now filling rapidly.
Serious thought: Test Cricket is stuffed if it can’t get to 4 full days consistently. For all the backslapping about “entertainment” the main funder of modern professional sport is media. Fox, Sky & #7 will be renegotiating their Rights spend if Days 3,4 & 5 are Midday Movies and Replays. Content is king, and Test Cricket is doing. a very poor job on that front.

Citrus Bob you’ve got the dream team on board for the Ashes.
And what the guru Pete B said.
