Amanac Travel: Citrus Bob’s Sporting Odyssey
CITRUS BOB’S SPORTING ODYSSEY
Our ancient mariner Citrus Bob Utber has decided to complete one last epic voyage around the sporting world. Unlike Phineas Fogg there will be no balloon or a Passepartout to help out and it won’t last 80 days.
Citrus will be departing in early July 2026 for a 25 day tour of Spain and England to witness a number of sporting events. The big plus is that you won’t have to stay awake all night to watch them on TV.
His trip will include the following: –
- The opening 2 days of Le Tour in Barcelona
- Tennis at SW19
- Cricket at Lords England v New Zealand
- British Open at Royal Birkdale
Citrus says “ Because I love the history of sport I have decided on these four historical sports that go back through the ages. In every case the events have been the fore runners of sport at the highest level. The golf will be the 154th Open, tennis 139th Grand Slam, cricket has been played at Lords since 1787 and Le Tour number 113 will start in Spain for the first time. It will be sports historian’s delight”.
Forever the Pivotonian, Citrus is busy finalising the plans for the trip at the moment and is wondering if there are any likeminded sports tragics out there who may be interested in going on his tour.
He can assure you there will be no uniforms, no tour guides only good fellowship and travelling together with like-minded sportonians.

About Bob Utber
At 84 years of age Citrus Bob is doing what he has always done since growing up on a small farm at Lang Lang. Talking, watching and writing sport and in recent years writing books. He lives in Mildura with his very considerate wife (Jenny) and a groodle named 'Chloe on Flinders' and can be found at Deakin 27 every day.

Sounds great, Citrus. You will have a ball.
I’m hoping to head over in 2027 for the Ashes
