Around that time, I lived in a post-uni share house, and Doris was big in our old Queenslander, from memory thanks to Errol Leslie Smythe. he got no resistance from the rest of the household. There was a deal on three CDs relased under the same badging for next to nothing at one of the chains – Doris Day, The Andrews Sisters and Nat King Cole (?) [I also had a NKC vinyl album].
We loved Doris. What joy when at the same time Strictly Ballroom came out and Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps was featured. [Brilliant movie in my view]

What a ripper of a story Smokie, loved how a community moment happens on the tram, and your reflections of your mum and her friend Pauline. Doesn’t Doris Day trigger so many memories? I helped on the school musical of The Pajama Game, while teaching, her movies with Rock Hudson were ubiquitous to Saturday afternoon movies back in the 70s, and of course her songs! Cheers
