Almanac Music – Stereo Stories: Congratulations to Vin Maskell and all the performers
Congratulations to the Stereo Stories crew who sold out the Williamstown Town Hall on Saturday night for one of the highlights of the Willy Lit Fest.
I’m looking forward to reading some reports of the event – attended by over 400. If you were there, leave a comment at the end of this post. As you will see the program included a number of Almanac contributors – Vin, Smokie Dawson, Lucia Nardo.

I was sitting upstairs with John Butler, his wife Marion and many others. Loved the night but the sound was dreadful upstairs. Couldn’t hear the readings but channeled my mother (or myself) and went down and chatted to desk staff on sound table at intermission. They were in the middle of fixing it as others had also spoken to them.
The rest was brilliant. Terrific stories, talented musicians, and next year, they will know how to get the sound upstairs properly. Most people stuck it out and it was worth it. Second half really clear and relaxing.
Such an original concept. This was my first stereo stories and I loved it.
Couldn’t go but well done all. Sounds like a ripper night.
Yes, a few sound issues upstairs on the balcony, due to it being a space not previously used. All resolved by night’s end and I’d doubt they’d reoccur. I also sampled the sound from the main floor area, and it was immaculate.
Technical discussions aside, what a fun night! Andy Griffiths really missed his calling with all those exploding bum books. Silver Cylinder should have been his real calling.
Though I fear Smokey Dawson looks likely to go all Hollywood on us if he isn’t careful. :) #shinbonerrockstar #gonetohishead
I was fortunate to have snared a table on the floor where there were no sound issues. This was a very entertaining evening. The Footy Almanac was given a couple of mentions by Vin, and Smokie was a fine ambassador. Most on my table hadn’t previously experienced Stereo Stories and all were effusive in their praise. Competition for tables is going to be even more competitive next year. I shouldn’t be telling you this.

Congratulations also to Yvette Wroby, Kerrie Soraghan and John Harms on their Living Footy session in the council chambers on Saturday morning. Well attended (there were at least 3 current or former Hobson’s Bay mayors in the audience – that has to be significant) and enjoyed.

Disappointing to have some technical issues, but that hall is just so big.
