Video review: Hawks of 1969

With the Hawks currently firming into Premiership favoritism, I thought it was an opportune time to recall the club’s era at the diminutive Glenferrie Oval. This clip from 1969 is one of the very few available of the Linda Crescent ground affectionately termed as the ‘sardine-can’. Note the famous outer area below the railway line is crammed with spectators. The legendary names of Hudson, Crimmins, Ditterich and Breen are present and you may spot a very young Leigh Matthews and Peter Knights making an appearance on this vintage black and white tape.
