The View from Shepparton

Went to Hobart for an extended weekend which extension did not include watching footy. Too busy going on guided tours which were great but which did not include much in the way of footy commentary.

When I say that I was not operating in a footy environment I did hear enough to divine that the Power were going down and then even more so my mob…

Didn’t even know what happened at the Rugby.

I was aware that the Weagles had given the Hawks a damned good run and that their full forward Kennedy had leaped to the to the lead in the Coleman Medal. What a weird style that bloke has but in nearly tripping over himself produces results. Who am I to knock this?

Thus I became aware of other things after the event in no particular  sequential order.

Israel Folau played a blinder for the Wallabies but that Kurtley got studded whilst attempting to kick what would have been a match winning penalty.

  • Ash McGrath, also under immense pressure, calmly slotted a major from 55 metres out after the siren in his 200th game. It’s going to take one hell of a good highlight this year to beat that. I actually watched this game on replay this morning and was absolutely amazed at the “how” and the fact that the Lions got over Geelong, particularly when the latter kicked a goal somewhat against the flow of play latish in the last quarter to bring a lead reduced to 20 points back up to 26. And then after Hawkins got that point how did the ball somehow in the space of a few seconds found its way back to McGrath at Centre Half Forward? Great game by Black also.
  • Freo thrashed North Melbourne though the Roos could have got going in the third quarter.
  • Richmond were always too good for the W.B.
  • Port somehow rose above themselves to beat Sydney with Chad Wingard again turning in a great display in the last quarter.

The foregoing results messed up my footy tipping but that is a small price to pay.

Highlight this week. McGrath.

Lowlight. Kurtley Beale
