Bryan Quirk (now 72) played 167 games for Carlton.

He was a tall, fast, mop haired blond with a long kick. He was recruited from Morwell for 1965 and as an 18yo won the best first year player, as well as the leading goalkicker from half forward. Ron Barrassi was captain coach.

Bryan played in the 1968 premiership win, the highlight of his playing career. He was one of Carlton’s best in the loss to Richmond in the 69 Grand Final and missed both the 70 and 72 premiership sides due to injury. He won the best clubman award in 1974. He retired in 1975 at 28yo, and was admitted to the Carlton Hall of Fame in 2006.

After retiring he became successful as a coach – firstly of a country team, and then of under 19s and reserves at Carlton. He stepped in as caretaker coach at Oakleigh in 1987 and took them to a flag the following year.

Bryan was also a primary school teacher. He and his wife enjoy travel and doing the famous walks of Europe.
