Mick McGuane played 152 AFL games for Collingwood FC from ’87 to ’96 and then played a few games for Carlton.

 

Born in 1967 Mick started his football career with Sebastopol in the Ballarat League. He was a Magpie supporter in the St Kilda zone, and when he was ignored by St Kilda he was recruited by Collingwood in 1986. Mick was a skilled running midfielder and was 2nd to Peter Daicos in the Best & Fairest Copeland Trophy in his 2nd year and went on to win in 92 & 93. He was in the 90 premiership team, an All Australian in 92, & a four time Victorian representative.

 

He was a close friend of the late Darren Millane. Later in his playing career he was affected by injury, and had ongoing issues with alcohol & gambling.

 

He has had a successful coaching career since 2000, starting for Burnie in Tasmania with a premiership, then back to Gisborne in Vic. and more premierships. He then had assistant roles at Richmond & St Kilda before moving to Balwyn, and in 2008 senior coach at Keillor. He started at Keillor with a premiership in his first year and has had a further 2 since.
