The Doggies Almanac is launched (how many people can you squeeze into the North Fitzroy Arms).

Thanks to everyone who came to the North Fitzroy Arms last night. Thanks to Deakin University for their support of the event and of the Almanac project generally (more on that next week, but we will be working with Deakin Uni students next year).

It was a cracking night, made memorable by many people: the writers who were effervescent (I could have mentioned every one of you), Ross Abbey (and Morro), Dean Lusher and all the Footscray supporters. As well as the Almanac crew.

Big thank you to Ned Wilson for looking after books, and to Crio and David Wilson for doing the raffle and to Andrew Fithall for helping out here and there too.

Now, on the raffle: it was conducted in the finest tradition of Almanac raffles. Two of the four winning tickets were claimed. Blue ticket A02 was not – until Terry found it on the floor when cleaning up and it was found to be Paul Fink (who owns the pub!) The other unclaimed ticket is Purple A58. If that’s yours let us know. Or if you have a ticket in that vicinity and had other people in your group, yell out. The prize is a cracker – a print of Jim Pavlidis’s cover art (Liam Picken).

Again, thanks for coming. I had a ball.

Would ALL holders of Purple Ticket A58 please form a queue at the NFA main entry on Friday evening at 5 o’clock when we will redraw the raffle!

  2. Ripper night. Got there late and missed a lot of the shenanigans, but the pub had a real buzz. Well done on the book. Wonderful effort.

  3. Sounds like a great night. Great photo, but I can’t see the basset hound with the pipe, the pint and the deerstalker hat?
    Regards, Jealous of Subiaco.

  4. At one stage there, the rubbidy dub was chockers.
No room to swing a cat or Cats supporter!

    Fantastic atmosphere.

Great service also by the bar staff, who were under the pump.

  5. What a great night! How many of us were at Haskins, 120, 125, or more. A great mix of quality and quantity.

Re the raffle, who was the klutz who incorrectly thought they had purple A88,making a big noise and dance until they realised they were in error. Not one of their great moments.

A big thank sto JTH, Ned and the rest of the Almanackers for the evening. To Terry and the crew at Haskins, thank sfor the marvellous service and work to make the night a raging success.

    Glen!

  6. My first Almanac event and I had a great time – so many kindred spirits and a friendly bunch too! Off to the Bulldogs Social Club party tonight – can never be too much enjoyment from this year’s season.

  7. Well done to all involved. Sounds like a magnificent evening’s entertainment. Thoroughly enjoying the book over here in SA- the state snubbed in perpetuity by the national cricket selectors!

Brilliant photo too Cookie. The colour and architecture of that bar is reassuringly 1960’s!

Sounds like a great night was had by all. Congrats to all my Doggies friends, though could not bring myself to go … it still hurts too much for a Swannie! Time to move on ……
