The Ashes 2015 – Second Test: 10 Things I have learnt from Lord’s and London

Ladbroke Third Test prices are available.

1.  That Peter Nevill’s debut game was the equal of any other Australian keeper on debut

2.  That the majority of people in my neighbourhood of Kilburn have chauffers and that 60% of those residents are born overseas.

3.  That Jimmy Anderson is a spent force.

4.  That watching golf’s greatest Open from St.Andrews in the day time is worth its weight in gold particularly when Marc Leishman, Jason Day and Adam Scott are up amongst the leaders. Leaders should finish around breakfast time in Australia (EST). Also the dulcet tones of Peter Allis.

5.  Australia is the only International cricket team that wears creams and jumpers mainly of wool. [A wool cricket team anyone? – Ed.]

6.  That the MCC should stop trying to doctor their pitches and include women amongst its membership. My dear chaps come in to the 21st century please.

7.  That the food in the media centre at Lord’s is equal to any in the world.

8.  That Mitchell Marsh has cemented himself in the side after a splendid all-round performance. Only his ability to get injured will hamper his chances.

9.  That Michael Atherton is a consummate journalist. Along with Greg Baum and Gideon Haig one must keep an encyclopaedia handy when reading their great articles.

10. That I am looking forward to going home knowing that all is well in Australian sport. Thanks to the golfers, cricketers and Wally Masur.

About Bob Utber

At 84 years of age Citrus Bob is doing what he has always done since growing up on a small farm at Lang Lang. Talking, watching and writing sport and in recent years writing books. He lives in Mildura with his very considerate wife (Jenny) and a groodle named 'Chloe on Flinders' and can be found at Deakin 27 every day.

Comments

  1. point 3 is an interesting one. Is it because he can’t produce long spells or that he just can’t produce?

  2. When I lived in London 30 years ago kilburn was full of Irish builders. They travelled around in vans and trucks driven by the boss. So you are saying not much has changed.

  3. Bob Utber says

Dips watching the first two tests and taking notice of Jimmy I think he is carrying an injury but there is no one else in the offering.
Not to many Irish around now chalkie!

  4. Malcolm Ashwood says

Love number 2 Citrus Bob only a south aussie can really appreciate and at least your avoiding the
    Danger hysteria

  5. Look at Jimmy Anderson’s Test career, 406 wickets from 106 games at an average of 29.73.
He takes a wicket every 58 balls.
That’s very good but not elite.
He is a solid cricketer, no doubt, but I’ve never rated him among the game’s best.
He is, however, capable of influencing Tests.
He’s only 32, probably a bit worn out, but not finished yet…
That said, I wouldn’t want him playing for Australia.
I’d like to see him bowl on those appalling pitches in England though…
