Sovereign Borders XI

With the closure of the Manus Island detention centre and the cricket season now upon us, the announcement of the Sovereign Borders XI is timely.

Despite severe criticism from organisations such as the UNHCR and many in the Australian community, the team has been dedicated and unswerving in its efforts to keep Australia safe from marauding hordes of oppressed, helpless asylum seekers.

About Peter Crossing

Peter Crossing loves the pure 'n natch'l blues. He is a member of the silver fox faction of the Adelaide Uni Greys. He is something of a cricket tragic although admitting to little interest in the IPL or Big Bash forms of the game.

Sadly I think PJK has to get a cap as well

The unofficial Chairman of Selectors and Director of Communications is R Murdoch

  3. Just keep Howard off the field, we all remember his double-bounce quarter-trackers in Pakistan…

Christmas Island holds a special place in my sporting heart. While there as a young intern I spent some time with quite a few of the people seeking asylum, initially in a healthcare capacity only. After a while, I found out the local cricket club’s oval was the place to be after work or on the weekend as for a brief couple of hours dozens of asylum seekers would be allowed to leave their confinement and simply play. Padding up to face some of the fiercest pace bowling I’ve seen from a teenage Sri Lankan lad while close to 40 fielders waited for an edge or a spooned cover drive (hopefully being able to forget about detention for a moment) was an amazing experience.

    Who’s the hidden 11th man?

    P. Hanson must open the bowling!

    Thanks for your responses.
Peter – I can’t disagree with you. I used the Tampa as a watershed as the use of asylum seekers as a political issue was considerably ramped up at that stage. (As an aside, Tigers too good. Big day for you.)
Jarrod – Thanks for sharing. What a great story.
Bob – Oops moment! I was tossing up between A Vanstone and K Andrews for the 11th spot and then included neither. As it stands, P Dutton has done enough to occupy two positions.

  6. Every footy team has it’s bruisers/protectors. You mightn’t like ’em, but the home fans can’t get enough of ’em.
I’d rather have Australia’s migrant issues than Europe’s open borders. Cruel but fair.

There are more than two possibilities here, Peter_B. I suggest Russell Crowe be made match referee if anyone wants to play this lot. He has recently offered an excellent summary of Australian performance in this area. Family is experienced in cricket matters.
