   Home page photo is a classic Peter. They’re all terrific shots. (More please)

   Of course that is the Eudunda Oval – huge. Conditions this day look pretty good but when the wild sou’wester blows you can be stuck in that pocket forever. Love the sheep in the paddock and the crop on the slope. The hills were stripped of their wood in the tough times, and the wood sold to Adelaide. My father was pastor there from 1982, and I used to visit from time to time. One summer my brother and I worked in the silos and played cricket for Eudunda-Robertstown CC.

   By a weird coincidence the only ton I ever made was on the ground.

   The other ground is Lyndoch. Love the Grant Burge sign. Good quality footy in the Barossa.

   That match is between the favourites Tanunda and the underdogs Barossa Districts. In a remarkable match Roger James, orchardist from the Adelaide Hills (Lenswood?) and Port Adelaide premiership player (under-rated, but not in SA), led Barossa Districts to an upset. I reckon Tanunda had won the previous four flags.

   Great photos. Lived in Riverton and an occasional follower of RSMU – there is nothing like a day at country footy

   I love these photos, too, Peter.

   As a Victorian, I love the South Australian-ness of them — the signs, the denuded hills, the chips on the shoulders…

   Hi Peter,

   Sorry, I was being a trouble-maker.

   As a southern Victorian, it pays to be reminded that most country footy is played in drier climates. It’s very different from a Saturday afternoon at the Eastern Oval in Ballarat. I actually the love the brown earth and big skies.

   There’s a dozen stories in all of these pics. Pleas keep ’em coming.

   OR at the old Kyneton Showgrounds, eh Daff, before the ground’s re-alignment and re-construction ??

   Calf-deep in rather stinky and very brown mud !! Virtually all season & not just in the depths of June and July.

   On the aforesaid Bendigo F.L. Tigers, were you aware that old Derrick “Dekka” Filo and ex-Hawk and North Melb. boy Nathan Thompson have pulled the pin as Kyneton joint coaches ???

   Terrific photos Peter. With your permission, I’d really like to post one or two onto my little site, Scoreboard Pressure and then link back to this Almanac page. (Scoreboard Pressure is somewhat lacking in terms of SA pics).

   Looking forward to your next Almanac contribution.

   And John, I really appreciated your info about the grounds and the teams.
