  1. It was a great moment when Archer and Hird swapped jumpers the last time they played each other. I’d love Bartel and Hayes to do the same thing in their final season if possible. Hard to split those two.

  2. Andrew Starkie says

Will never forget him in the first 2010 gf. Obsessed. Heroic. All for the love of footy.

  3. Very fine player, without doubt their best player since the departure of the triumvirate of Bourke, Harvey and Loewe. The only contemporary Saint that could be called a champion.

    Glen!

  4. The glue that binds the Saints. The engine that makes them go. Never the captain, but unquestionably the leader.

  5. Stephen Cooke says

GlennB, he was the captain, but I agree with your sentiments

  6. Lord Bogan says

This is quite striking Yvette. Reminds me of Sitting Bull. Nobility in victory and defeat. Love your work.

  7. Loved the Lenny picture, Yvette. The Goddard one will aid me to pick him out in a police lineup.

  8. Ya gotta love Lennie!
Sits comfortably with others I love who managed to get slightly under the radar from an absolute media glorification point of view such as Paul Kelly, Brett Kirk, Dean Kemp, Gavin Brown, Dustin Fletcher, Simon Black, Gavan Wanganeen, even Robert Harvey doesn’t get the recognition of Buckley, Voss, Ricciuto, etc..
    All hail Lennie!!!

  9. Another excellent piece, Yvette.
A fine tribute to L Hayes.

  10. Brandon Erceg says

Cookie, I couldn’t agree more with your comment. When it comes to “cometh the man, cometh the moment”, those two take it to gladitorial proportions, just amazing footballers, especially when it needs to get done

  11. Stephanie Holt says

Discover that I can’t find any words after all. Love ya Lenny. (And great work again, Yvette)

  12. Kelsey Smith says

It brings tears to my eyes when I think of the pride that myself and many a Saints fan has for Lenny. What a beauty!

  13. Medium Dazza says

Its probably a task for kids to put numbers on their footy jumpers, but at 45 yo, I wear the number 7 with pride. His goal in the GF was beyond his capability and range, but he did it; one action typifying a career.

  14. Dear lovely Knackers, thanks for the kind words about my art and the conversation and love for Lenny, and other greats of the game. It says lots about the man when he is so universally loved, not just by Saints tragics. Again, he gave us a stunning display of the man that he is. On the telly, when I watched the replay, they had his team mates talking about it, including Robert Harvey another great player, and Luke Ball, yet another great player, both men of great standing and courage. And I loved it when Blake outed Lenny as the Coaches pet. Duh! Of course he is.

Go Saints. May we continue in this fashion. May Lenny remain strong, healthy, fit and a Sainter.

    Yvette

  15. David Downer says

    Brilliant Yvette,

Glen (of the !) variety, your unnecessary thinly veiled swipe at Riewoldt was noted
