Round 22 Mega Post

The Crows Game:

One Thing to Another

Adelaide v Sydney

7.20pm Friday 18 August

Adelaide Oval

Aidan Hammond

First things first, we will be going from one thing to another, I missed the game because I was playing club footy. I saw the commentators up the Crows, Crows get behinds. Eddie being robbed by the umpire, and the Crows losing against the Swans.

The fixtures are horrible this year, I can’t watch any friday night games because my club footy is on, all I was left with was a scrappy Hawthorn match. The fixture crossed paths again, I am so annoyed that I missed the game. On the other hand the fixtures are great because 12 teams can still make the final and the close games are at the end of the year, Crows v Swans, Giants v Cats next week, a brilliant season.

The commentators always jinx us, I don’t like what they always do. They were talking up the Crows and then do you know what happened? The Crows lost yep, they were doing well at crushing our dreams. In the last bit they mentioned our fast ball movement, do you know what happened? The Swans kept it in and we almost got a breakthrough but we stuffed it.

The Crows kicking was appalling with Swans kicking accurately. Eddie Betts, Brad Crouch Charlie Cameron and Josh Jenkins kicked poorly. They are professional footballers and are payed to kick goals. They missed, if one of them kicked I goal more accurately we would have won, but we are stuck with a very ordinary 11.14.

The umpiring. This is controversial. The fifty metre penalty was the right decision, but the play on call was not. Callum Mills had clearly gone off his marks and the umpire should have already called play on, but he didn’t and Eddie Betts tackled him. If Eddie Betts let Mills run off he would have kicked it and Eddie Betts  would be behind him. Eddie can’t win. If the decision that was correct was called, it would have been holding the ball and we probably would have kicked another goal and Sydney wouldn’t have. Poor umpiring but as Don Pyke said, “That’s Life”.

Crows showed that they can play, they definitely did, but they didn’t show they were clutch. This could have secured the minor premiership, but they let us down again. Now we come into the finals being scared of Sydney because we lost to them in Round 22.

Lastly, I haven’t mentioned Sydney. Sydney are a very large threat for the premiership, with amazing mental skills being able to go around from 6 losses and from looking like they would lose against the Crows and then turning it around. They have amazing skill and can knock anybody from the competition off of their perch and that is what they did against the Crows with a superb mix of attack, midfield and defence. Remember though, that they did lose 6 straight horribly, so they can be very weak, you just need to apply the pressure, take your chances, and lock it in your forwardline.

The Port Game:

The cold come back

Western Bulldogs v Port Adelaide

1.45pm Saturday 19 August.

Mars Stadium

Aidan Hammond

Port are playing the Western Bulldogs in Ballarat, they need to win to show they are good. In the first quarter, the goalkicking is pretty ordinary but Bulldogs are up by 7 points. Western Bulldogs might make the finals but they also might not.

In the second quarter it looks really really cold down in ballarat. The goalkicking is still very ordinary but bulldogs have one more goal in the 2nd quarter, Port are playing a bit better than the Bulldogs. I wonder if they will win or not, this match will be good.

At half time I think that Ken Hinkley might be thinking, Gee, I should leave soon, I heard that he might be going to Gold Coast next year. In the 3rd quarter, the Goal kicking is very poor still, Western Bulldogs are up by 7 points and play a bit better.

In the last quarter I don’t know what happens but Port Adelaide have a surge and comeback to kick the last 5 goals of the game to win by 3 goals. This means that Port win against a top 8 team for once, and Western Bulldogs might not make the finals.

The Walkerville Game:

The weird change

Walkerville versus Broadview

7.30pm Friday 18 August

Broadview Oval

Aidan Hammond

We are playing Broadview who are 6 and can’t make the finals, lets win. Our coach wants us to win by more than 25. That is how much we won  by last time. In the first quarter, I am half back and we score a lot of points in the first quarter but no goals.

Next quarter we need to do a lot better at kicking straight, but we need to keep up in the defence. The same thing happens though but we score less behinds. We get more of the ball though and we are still keeping the other team to 0 points.

At half time, Phil is switching the team around. I saw the board and he is moving the team. I am the ruckman. In the third quarter, we score 4.1 and I am winning all the taps against a guy who is taller than me, I am also flowing the taps up and getting a lot of the ball. Broadview are still on zero.

At 3 quarter time I am playing defensive midfielder. Archie is ruckman and he is winning the taps so I am not roving all of them, I am playing pretty well, we score a behind. At the end of the game, I have a Pasta Deli roll and a McDonald’s chocolate shake.

Premiership:

This is a little thing that I used to do when I was younger to see who I would think would win the Premiership. Who I think will win the premiership will change throughout the season. I will do an update every time it changes. I know it is not a very good method and it is not reliable, but here goes.

The reigning premiers start off as favourites then whoever beats them are favourites then whoever beats them are favourites and so on. Western Bulldogs start off as favourites and they have only had one team beat them which is Fremantle and that was in Round 3. Fremantle lost against West Coast so that means that West Coast are favourites. West Coast lost to Essendon so that makes Essendon favourites. Essendon lost to Richmond so that means Richmond are favourites. Richmond lost to Sydney and Sydney lost to Hawthorn, Hawthorn lost to Richmond so Richmond are favourites. Richmond lost to Geelong so Geelong are favourites.

This is a more complicated version of it. So the reigning premiers are the favourites and whoever beats them are favourites. If the favourites have been beaten before the round that they got beaten on then the team with highest winning margin on them and so on.

Western Bulldogs start favourites, the only team that has beaten them are Fremantle, Fremantle have lost 2 games. One against Geelong by 42 and the other one against Port by 89. So Port are the favourites. They have lost 2 games, 1 against Crows by 17 and 1 against GWS by 31. Therefore GWS are the favourites. GWS have only lost 1 game and that was against the Crows. The Crows have lost 1 game and that was against North Melbourne North Melbourne have lost 5 games the most against West Coast by 43.

West Coast have lost 2 games, the most by 50 against Hawthorn. Hawthorn have lost 5 games, the most by 86 against Gold Coast and Geelong. Gold Coast have lost 4 and Geelong have lost 2. Geelong have lost 2 games, the most against Collingwood by 29. Collingwood have lost 5 games, the most by 29 against Geelong.  Geelong have lost 2 games, the most against Collingwood by 29, we have already been down that path and it would go on a endless loop so the other team they lost to is Gold Coast.

Gold Coast have lost by 4 games the most by 102 against GWS. GWS have 2 games, the most by the Crows by 56, we have already been down that path so it will be on an endless loop so the other game they have lost was against St Kilda by 23. St Kilda have lost 3 games, the most by 38 against Geelong. Geelong have lost 3 games and 2 have been mentioned already, the other game was against Essendon.

Essendon have lost 4 games, the most by 65 against Crows. Crows have lost 2 games but we have already been down one of those paths, the one that we haven’t been down through was against Melbourne. Melbourne have lost 4 games, the most by 29 against Geelong. Geelong have lost 4 games and we have been down 3 of lose paths. The other one is against West Coast. West Coast have lost 5 games, we have already been down one of those paths. The most by 61 against Essendon. Essendon have lost 6 games, the most against the Crows but we have already been down that path so second is against Collingwood for 38. Collingwood have lost 7 games, the most by 29 against Carlton. Carlton have lost 7 games, the most by 90 against Port Adelaide.

Port Adelaide have lost 5 games, The most by 70 against Essendon. Essendon have lost 6 games. We have been down 2 paths so the 3rd the most losing margin is against Fremantle by 37. Fremantle have lost 6 games the most by Crows by 100. The Crows have lost 3 games the most by North Melbourne but we have already been down that path so the second highest margin is against Melbourne. Melbourne have lost 5 games the most by 29 against Geelong but we have already been down that path so the second highest margin is 14 against North Melbourne.

North Melbourne have lost 4 games, the most by 43 against West Coast but we have already been down that path, so the second most is by 42 against Sydney and GWS, the highest score out of them, was Sydney. Sydney have lost 6 games, the most by 42 against GWS. GWS have lost 3 games we have been down to of the paths so the only path left is against Carlton. Carlton have lost 7 games we have already been down 1 of the paths so the second highest margin is against Richmond. Richmond have lost 5 games the most by 76 against Adelaide.

Adelaide have lost 3 games we have been down 2 of those paths so the only path left is against Geelong. Geelong have lost 4 games and we have been down all of those paths except against West Coast. West Coast have lost 5 games we have been down 2 of those paths. The third most is against Richmond.

Richmond have lost 5 games, we have already been down one of those paths so the second highest path is against Sydney. Sydney have lost 6 games, we have already been down one of those paths so the second highest is against West Coast.

West Coast have lost 5 games and we have already been down 3 of those paths so the fourth highest margin is against GWS by 8. GWS have lost 4 games and we have been down 3 of those paths so the only path left is against Sydney. Sydney have lost 7 games, we have been down 2 of those paths so the 3rd highest margin is by 28 against Port.

Port have lost 6 games, we have been down 2 of those paths, the next match is against Adelaide by 17. Adelaide have lost 4 games, we have been down 3 of those paths and the only left is against Hawthorn. Hawthorn have lost 9 games, we have been down one of those paths so the second highest margin is against Geelong, Geelong have lost 45 games and he have been down all of those paths except 1 and that was against the Crows, the Crows have lost 5 games but we have been down all of those paths except against Sydney.

Sydney have lost 8 games, we have been down 3 of those paths. So the 4th highest margin is against Western Bulldogs. Western Bulldogs have lost 11 games but we have already been down one of those paths, so next is by 59 against the Crows. The Crows have lost 5 games and we have been down all of those paths so Crows are favourites.

If Crows and Geelong don’t lose anymore games from here they will stay favourite.

Comments

  1. Dave Brown says

Yep, as Don says that’s life, Aidan. The umpires’ boss has admitted they got the play on call and Buddy’s run calls wrong but the protection they gave to Sloane from koala Heeney was encouraging. Other than that it was a fantastic contest, why people love footy. Crows should leave that match confident they can beat the Swans in September if they need to. Looking forward to your final at the home of football this weekend.

  2. Thanks Dave, always good to play at Hope Valley.

  3. Anna Brown says

Would be great to play at hope valley but a home final is even better (unless you’re on BBQ duty).
