Round 20 – Fearless 2015: Michael Jamison fresh airs Mitch Robinson… A bit sooky lala

Sydney took on Collingwood at the SCG for the first meeting there between the teams since the year dot. Tom Mitchell arrived as a midfielder with 41 stats just as Luke Parker’s leg buckled. A 5 goal last qtr sunk the Pies, victims of their own inaccuracy. Honourable losses would be driving Bucks mad. Swans home by 11pts.

The Bombers got off to a flyer against the Crows, leading by 6pts at the first change. 4.8 to 24.6 from there saw the Crows fly and the Bombers crashland. Injuries to Giles and Myers didn’t help the Dons, but Goddard and Heppell flew the flag. The Crows feasted on the mental carcass. An 112pt win not indicative of the teams at their best.

North headed south to Hobart to host the Saints at Blundstone Arena and might’ve been subject to vagaries in air traffic as they arrived at half time. The Saints’ pressure was top class in the first half but inaccuracy killed. 8.3 rather than 3.8 and it’d be game over at the 1/2. A Petrie-led 9.5 goal Roos 3rd qtr and it was. Roos by 37pts.

GWS travelled to Adelaide Oval to try to unplug the Power. They nearly did it too. Port forward Kleenex Ah-Chee had a breakout game with 3 goals as did Rhys Palmer, former Norwich Rising Star, with 5. GWS led by 2pts at the last change after an even contest and then Port Powered away with a 5 goal last qtr to a 21pt win. Griffen 31.

The Cats and Hawks squared off at the G on Saturday night and Cyril Rioli enhanced his reputation for the most effective stat user in the AFL. 12 touches for 6 goals. Who says he needs more? Stevie J returned to the field for his 250th but the Cats seemed to be chasing all night. The Hawks forward spread just seems to get better. Hodge 4.

Meanwhile at the yo-Gabba Gabba, Brisbane overturned a 19pt qtr-time Blues lead. And they did so, led by Vyvyan from “The Young Ones” aka ex-Blue Mitch Robinson. Give a side a sniff and…BANG! Leppa’s Lions ran amok over Barker’s Blues as the “Department Store” Harris Andrews, all of 18yrs, defended well…Lions roar by 64pts.

Gold Coast kept chipping away at Richmond at the G on Sunday and managed to get to 17pts down at the half. And that’s where it ended. Richmond kicked 6 in the 3rd and 8 in the last as opposed to 3 in the 2nd half by the Suns. The Sunnyboys melted under the Tiger heat. Unsung Tiger Vickery kicked 4. Tigers home e-e-easy by 83pts.

Melbourne got lost on their way to Etihad. The Bulldogs were 8 goals up at qtr time. How can a senior AFL team have such a phobia of an AFL venue??? 22 losses in a row by the Demons at Etihad/Telstra/Colonial. Not to underestimate the Dogs however…Bevos Bullies finetuning for September with a nice old 98pt belting for percentage.

West Coast stole a march in the derby/darby at Subi on Sunday. A top of the table clash saw Freo start with remarkable lethargy. Eagles came prepared with a 7 goal 1st qtr. Hannibal Masten sharpened his fangs, Freo’s Silvagni his elbow. Injury-hit Eagles withstood a fierce Freo finish to win by 24pts. Eagle Josh Hill 4 goals won the Medal.
