Round 19 Mega Post

The Crows Game:

A new legend

Adelaide versus Collingwood

3:20pm, Sunday 30 July

Melbourne Cricket Ground

Aidan Hammond

Collingwood need to win this if they want to stay alive, they might already be dead, we don’t know until september. The great month, the Crows need to win this if they want to be ahead of the other teams by more and secure a spot, I almost missed the start coming from Salisbury for my footy.

The centre bounce happens and I am nervous, the match starts and follows the trend for the rest of the day, Collingwood scores a point, a Crows quick rebound gives us the first goal, my nerves are settling a little bit now, I am starting to be cocky and think we have this game in the bag, but Collingwood respond well and lead at quarter time, after my footy game I was meant to see the Crows polish Collingwood off the finals chances, but this is not what I like to see.

I know Don Pyke is a good coach, he has coached us to most game top of the ladder, and hasn’t been here for a complete 2 years, I have faith in him motivating the boys to jump out of the slack sack. I thought at the start that Crows were playing a bit better but near the finish Collingwood are totally outplaying us, it is horrible to watch the Crows play this bad, I know we are top of the ladder but we don’t feel like a premiership side to me. But we are winning, ugly or pretty, but can we win today?

In the third quarter after the Adam Treloar goal we are trailing by up to 50 points, it is so horrendous, up to this point. We are trailing by 3 goals at quarter time and have the momentum shift heavily our way McGovern has kicked 3, come on Crows.

The fourth quarter should be the finishing off quarter to slap Collingwood to the ground we  get some goals but they have a bright purple patch. It is looking unlikelier and more unlikelier that we will win 7 seconds left, Brodie Smith to the pack and McGovern plucks it out of the air, the siren goes we are trailing by six from 30 out directly in front, he scores a new legend has been born. A win would have been nice but 2 points are better than 0.

The Port Game:

Stick With Them

Port Adelaide versus Saint Kilda

4.05pm, Saturday 29 July

Adelaide Oval

Aidan Hammond

This Saturday morning I got all ready for tennis then I got a message saying that our opponent has forfeited. So me and one of my partners just had a hit, at the start of the day we were just switching doubles partners, then they kicked us off because they needed to play a singles, we played another doubles with a girl from another team and her brother, we only played up to 2-0. We have played 3-1 in the first match and 2-0 in the second, we played a singles and we had to stop at 5-4, I was winning.

I got home and I took a shower, did my house chores, then I did some almanac writing. My and dad have lunch, we bake a bunch of vegetables, into a kind of frittata and have a chicken patty. Me and dad might go to the sturt game. We think that it is at 2:10. Then we load all of our green waste in the trailer to dump tomorrow.  Later Dad and I go to Richmond  Oval to see West Adelaide v Sturt. We go but then we realise that we are 20 minutes in to the second quarter. It starts at 1:10.

We go and then we see that it is really close, 15 to 18, another Sturt supporter told us that in the first quarter it was 3 to 3 and it was really close. It is really close and it is a good game to watch, at half time I go and get hot chips and I order it and then I have to wait for it, they have a really nice salt on it, they have a weird sauce squeezer. I watch the 3rd quarter and it is still pretty close but sturt have the edge. In the 3rd quarter I try to find chocolate milk but they are out. I try and hear where the huddle is. I cant. Then We move to the pocket where the action is, Sturt win by 24.

Then the Port Game starts!

Port really should do well against Saint Kilda, they are ahead of them and need to win to keep their top 4 spot alive. At the start Saint Kilda are down by 6 points and Port are still letting them be in it, they should be doing better against Saint Kilda. Every team inside the top 9 should be winning.

In the second quarter it is continuing to be a cracking game the atmosphere at the Adelaide Oval is great, I think that they just scored one goal each in that quarter, it was really good and Port should not be winning by that much, they should be winning by more.

In the third quarter Port are playing a lot better, the Port fans are enjoying these good games, especially because they should be winning. Saint Kilda are really bad at kicking in the goal, they are still losing well, it could cost Saint Kilda the game.

In the last quarter Port Adelaide have a good start, but then Saint Kilda have a come back, they are doing well they are up by 10 with 2 minutes to go. Half of the Port supporters go early, it is your team, you have got to stick with it. You never know what would happen. Port Score 2 goals and Win! Wow!

The Walkerville Game:

Settled in

Walkerville versus Salisbury

12pm, Sunday 30 July

Salisbury Oval

Aidan Hammond

We have to go up to Salisbury today last time we played them we won, if we win this we are guaranteed top 2. The match starts off with us we get 2 goals, I am really good across half back not letting them get it and then I am rebounding it to the forward line.

In the second quarter we still have a really good playing style, we kick 2 goals and 1 point and still don’t let them score. I did this play where there were 3 Salisbury players and they got the ball kicked to them, the middle one said “Mine” but then I came over the top to spoil.

In the third quarter at the start we had 2 boys kicking the wrong way which ended up with a Salisbury goal. Apart from that we were still good. I did another play where the ball was on the edge of the centre square and a player tapped it back to me and I ran, took a bounce and then did a really big kick to someone on the wing. Once I  played against me and then he tried to sell me the candy I didn’t buy it and he dropped it, but that umpire was useless so he called play on.

In the last quarter, they were coming back and really wanted it but we stood firm in defence and won. After the game the coach gave me the main award. I was “Easily best on Ground” and got a McDonald’s chicken wrap voucher and an AFM bowling voucher.

My Brownlow Medal:

My Premiership Favourites

This is a little thing that I used to do when I was younger to see who I would think would win the Premiership. Who I think will win the premiership will change throughout the season. I will do an update every time it changes. I know it is not a very good method and it is not reliable, but here goes.

The reigning premiers start off as favourites then whoever beats them are favourites then whoever beats them are favourites and so on. Western Bulldogs start off as favourites and they have only had one team beat them which is Fremantle and that was in Round 3. Fremantle lost against West Coast so that means that West Coast are favourites. West Coast lost to Essendon so that makes Essendon favourites. Essendon lost to Richmond so that means Richmond are favourites. Richmond lost to Sydney and Sydney lost to Hawthorn so Hawthorn are favourites.

This is a more complicated version of it. So the reigning premiers are the favourites and whoever beats them are favourites. If the favourites have been beaten before the round that they got beaten on then the team with highest winning margin on them and so on.

Western Bulldogs start favourites, the only team that has beaten them are Fremantle, Fremantle have lost 2 games. One against Geelong by 42 and the other one against Port by 89. So Port are the favourites. They have lost 2 games, 1 against Crows by 17 and 1 against GWS by 31. Therefore GWS are the favourites. GWS have only lost 1 game and that was against the Crows. The Crows have lost 1 game and that was against North Melbourne North Melbourne have lost 5 games the most against West Coast by 43.

West Coast have lost 2 games, the most by 50 against Hawthorn. Hawthorn have lost 5 games, the most by 86 against Gold Coast and Geelong. Gold Coast have lost 4 and Geelong have lost 2. Geelong have lost 2 games, the most against Collingwood by 29. Collingwood have lost 5 games, the most by 29 against Geelong.  Geelong have lost 2 games, the most against Collingwood by 29, we have already been down that path and it would go on a endless loop so the other team they lost to is Gold Coast.

Gold Coast have lost by 4 games the most by 102 against GWS. GWS have 2 games, the most by the Crows by 56, we have already been down that path so it will be on an endless loop so the other game they have lost was against St Kilda by 23. St Kilda have lost 3 games, the most by 38 against Geelong. Geelong have lost 3 games and 2 have been mentioned already, the other game was against Essendon.

Essendon have lost 4 games, the most by 65 against Crows. Crows have lost 2 games but we have already been down one of those paths, the one that we haven’t been down through was against Melbourne. Melbourne have lost 4 games, the most by 29 against Geelong. Geelong have lost 4 games and we have been down 3 of lose paths. The other one is against West Coast. West Coast have lost 5 games, we have already been down one of those paths. The most by 61 against Essendon. Essendon have lost 6 games, the most against the Crows but we have already been down that path so second is against Collingwood for 38. Collingwood have lost 7 games, the most by 29 against Carlton. Carlton have lost 7 games, the most by 90 against Port Adelaide.

Port Adelaide have lost 5 games, The most by 70 against Essendon. Essendon have lost 6 games. We have been down 2 paths so the 3rd the most losing margin is against Fremantle by 37. Fremantle have lost 6 games the most by Crows by 100. The Crows have lost 3 games the most by North Melbourne but we have already been down that path so the second highest margin is against Melbourne. Melbourne have lost 5 games the most by 29 against Geelong but we have already been down that path so the second highest margin is 14 against North Melbourne.

North Melbourne have lost 4 games, the most by 43 against West Coast but we have already been down that path, so the second most is by 42 against Sydney and GWS, the highest score out of them, was Sydney. Sydney have lost 6 games, the most by 42 against GWS. GWS have lost 3 games we have been down to of the paths so the only path left is against Carlton. Carlton have lost 7 games we have already been down 1 of the paths so the second highest margin is against Richmond. Richmond have lost 5  games the most by 76 against Adelaide.

Adelaide have lost 3 games we have been down 2 of those paths so the only path left is against Geelong. Geelong have lost 4 games and we have been down all of those paths except against West Coast. West Coast have lost 5 games we have been down 2 of those paths. The third most is against Richmond.

Richmond have lost 5 games, we have already been down one of those paths so the second highest path is against Sydney. Sydney have lost 6 games, we have already been down one of those paths so the second highest is against West Coast.

West Coast have lost 5 games and we have already been down 3 of those paths so the fourth highest margin is against GWS by 8. GWS have lost 4 games and we have been down 3 of those paths so the only path left is against Sydney. Sydney have lost 7 games, we have been down 2 of those paths so the 3rd highest margin is by 28 against Port.

Port have lost 6 games, we have been down 2 of those paths, the next match is against Adelaide by 17. Adelaide have lost 4 games, we have been down 3 of those paths and the only left is against Hawthorn. Hawthorn have lost 9 games, we have been down one of those paths so the second highest margin is against Geelong, Geelong have lost 45 games and he have been down all of those paths except 1 and that was against the Crows, the Crows have lost 4 games but we have been down all of these paths so Crows are the favourites.

If Crows and Hawthorn don’t lose anymore games from here they will stay favourite.

  1. Mark Duffett says

Salisbury Oval fairly large for under 12s , I’d have thought – did you play the whole ground?

Great to see you putting together not merely winners, but full score tips. You should ask your Uncle Dave to see if next year you’re allowed to have a twitter account to participate the most engaging Footy Maths Institute Tipping League, which is based on tipping winning margins, Not to mention, if like me you really like numbers with your footy, the Monash University tipping comp, which has a special section for primary/high school students: http://probabilistic-footy.monash.edu/~footy/index.shtml

It was an exciting weekend of footy. I had no idea that half back could be so important until I saw you play from there and control the game. Now I understand what Talia is all about. BOG again, good work!??

  3. Thanks Anna and Mark.
We played full oval, it was big.
Hopefully I will join the competition next year.
