Round 17 – St Kilda v Carlton: Great Win Beating Others

St Kilda versus Carlton

Docklands Stadium

Many footy fans are unhappy seeing Carlton playing on Friday nights.

I had planned to watch their previous Friday night game against Sydney at SCG, but being asked to fill in at the premise where staff shortage occurred dominated.

Then on Wednesday, the manager put a notice seeking someone to work on Friday night. As I will be away for a week soon, I need money and put hands up. However, I forgot about footy.

On Thursday I was told I would not need to do this filling in, but later was asked to do the extra shift. Giving up the Saints Friday night game was my option; however  St Kilda’s next Friday night game is what I really look forward (as you know, I am attending the game).

Carlton had no luck with me on Friday night footy.

Saints have been predicted to win. I wanted my boys to perform well after the loss to Port Adelaide last week, and to celebrate more. Last week’s loss was not good, but my on field performances at the IMPACT Invitational Cup dominated my feelings as positives. Also playing against Brian Lake made me so happy and proud. Then there is no need to worry or to write about the losing game here.

Checking the score after work, I learned we won with a big margin. I was so excited and played the club song at our stock room when no one else was there.

Footy practice on my own and work roster on Saturday placed me to watch the replay on Sunday morning.

Young Marshall played  full forward, like I did last week. He seemed to have similar attitudes to mine, trying hard to get the footy. Marshall picked up the kicked ball from Jack Steven in the goal square, but only scored a behind. Then he took a good mark in the congested hot spot and did his job. Saints’ quick actions after the bounce continued to Marshall again, but the last one only brought him/us a minor score.

Eight points were all gained by Marshall. Good efforts.

Others followed his great performances. Gilbert’s good tackle, and Billings’ good kick. Membrey finished his job by kicking a goal.

Holding opponents to lead the ball is new in my player notebook.

But Carlton worked hard too in the first quarter.

Their good midfielder Cripps scored a goal after taking a mark. Daisy Thomas found a good spot for goal kicking.

Later, watching the replay reminded me that I need to kick or handpass before being tackled as Matt always instructs us at footy trainings.

Meanwhile Newnes kicked a goal beautifully from 30 metres out. Saints led by eight points at the first break.

In the beginning of the second quarter, the backline said, good kicks were not made by forwards but also by us. McKenzie demonstrated a beautiful kick towards Marshall.

Membrey kicked a goal easily from 12-13 metres out directly in front. And Sinclair followed with Blues’ poor skills and decisions.

Billings ran and kicked a goal nicely. Steele also kicked a goal.

We performed well, but in the second quarter, Gilbert’s leaving the fumbled ball and Dunstan’s silly kicks were unimpressed and actions for please explain.

At the main break, our leading margin was 23.

One of my favourite Saints, Jack Billings started good performances in the third quarter. Kicked his second goal first, and then assisted Newnes to kick a goal with a handpass.

Newnes conducted a good tackle and Carlisle did a good turn over.

Jack Steven demonstrated his great performances with two goals in the third quarter. Marshall kicked a goal beautifully too.

Saints led by 54 points at the last break.

Saints slowed down at the last quarter having kicked only two goals by Weller and Newnes. Carlton kept quiet by kicking a goal that was the same as at the third quarter.

Carlisle was off the field, but isn’t in the injury list.

A big win by 64 points was great and I want to keep partying next week in Melbourne.

I really look forward to the trip and game. By the way I am also joining a footy training with Caulfield Bears on Thursday night.

See you soon Melbourne!

About Yoshihiro Imagawa

Love, passion and pride are seen on the footy that is the biggest part of my life. 1. St Kilda Club member: I am a passionate and crazy Sainter. Just hope we will win the second flag soon, especially after Dogs and Tigers having ended long premiership draughts. 2. The Osaka Dingoes Player and Public Relations Officer: Player number 44 that I chose to honour Stephen Milne with my wish being like a small forward like him. Lenny Hayes' hardworking attitudes are adopted on my trainings and practices. Nick Riewoldt's great plays are in my player audiobook too. 3. Writing: Here on the Almanac and also on the World Footy News. My skills utilise on great footy websites.

  1. Guru Gus says

Yoshi – was at the game, and Saints should have won by 80 points. Carlton were so far off the pace except for Cripps and Curnoe. Rowan, Membrey and Steele were all excellent for the Saints – plus Jack Steven of course. Hoping for a strong performance from the Saints this week against Richmond, and demonstrate proof of progress since that last quarter against the Suns. Here’s hoping! Enjoy Melbourne.

  2. G’day and thanks for your comment, Gus!

Good points of views, but boys might save energy for the MRV Match??

I believe the Saints will demonstrate good footy against Richmond.

It’s the day I am flying out Osaka and I will be in Melbourne tomorrow morning. And the Caulfield Bears are waiting me for the training tomorrow night.

Hope see you at Docklands Stadium on Friday.

    Cheers

    Yoshi
