Round 13 Blog: Unlucky for Some

Coaches requiems are already being written; some teams are still a ‘mathematical’ chance for finals; it must be mid-season.

The Dogs host the Crows tonight for the right to remain a ‘mathematical’ chance.

Essendon host North, whose recent form is actually the better of the two. Is Sir James’ halo slipping?

Hawthorn introduce the Gold Coast to the delights of the Apple Isle- volcanic ash permitting.

St Kilda get the chance to show their revivl is real against the unbeaten Cats. Those who recall their round 1 clash may keep a DVD handy.

Richmond really really need to beat Brisbane at the Gabba if thoughts of finals are to be maintained.

Melbourne host the Dockers at the ‘G, where Freo struggle to win. Yet who’s game to back the Dees?

Carlton have the chance to put a gap on the chasing Sydney-siders, but wouldn’t want to relax.

And finally, West Coast play host to Port, a game in which anything other than a comfortable win to the home team would be a surprise.

Fire away Knackers!

The Magpies’ Arizona camp sounds a bit like that Australian cricket team camp where Stewie McGill buggered his knee.

More cutting edge innovation in footy.

  2. Is there any truth to the story going around that Dane Swan is in an Arizona hospital with servere concussion?

It goes that he was sunning himself, in just shorts and runners, on a rock on the hiking track and someone mistook him for a rattle snake and hit him with a stick.

  3. Pamela Sherpa says

Thanks for the laugh Phantom. The whole Arizona thing is such a joke. Won’t it be hilarious if they get stranded there because of volcanic ash.(wishful thinking, mind at work) Money can’t buy common sense.

  4. Pamela,

Pretty petty swipe don’t you think… But knocking an idea is the Australian way unfortunately so what’s new?

Personally – I’d love nothing better than for the Pies to make the G/F again. And then for them to finish full of running and kick another 8-10 goals in the final quarter as they’ve done fairly regularly of late. And then for them to head off to Arizona again for more of the same. And for the rest of the competition to please themselves.

    Cheers & Go Pies!

  5. Half baked, Pamela?

  6. Andrew Fithall says

Going to Geelong St Kilda tomorrow evening as an unaligned observer. Expect Geelong to win comfortably. If St Kilda are to win, it will be a horrible game of football.. I asked P Flynn last week if he was going to the Gee StK game. He responded that he refuses to watch St Kilda. I can understand that.

  7. Not a gambolling man Andrew (sore hip restricted joke) but I wouldn’t be confident in putting money on the Cats.

The Saints have to make a statement soon so I hope it is next week.

  8. Richard Naco says

I’m happy for everybody to keep picking against the Cats. It’s all counted for 2/3 of SFA so far, yet everybody seems to keep doing it.

  9. Clearisghted says

Selwood is a huge loss for the Cats and one which the Saints will not be underestimating.

  10. johnharms says

    Noble from P. FLynn.

I’m interested in knowing what tune the goal umpire is banging out in the photo on the home page. I’ll have a think.

    Suggestions welcome.

  11. Richard Naco says

    “Wichita Lineman”?

  12. Pamela Sherpa says

Blake – yes petty swipe from me, but always happy to bag the precious Pies.

  13. John Butler says

Is there such a thing as a petty swipe when it’s directed at Collingwood?

One would have thought they had few grounds to stand on. They love to dish it out.

  14. Andrew Fithall says

The song could be “Spoiled” by Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band

  15. John Butler says

‘Standing on the outside looking in’?

    The umpires school yard lament.

  16. John Butler says

Or… ‘Get off my F@!#$%king toe!’

  17. Rick Kane says

Blinded By The Light or Amazing Grace?

  18. Rick Kane says

Are you holding your Freedos this week Mr Phantom?

  19. John Butler says

    RK, Freedos?

Some new age type of Speedo?

  20. Andrew Fithall says

Hand Becomes Fist (Becomes Hammer) – Chris Wilson

  21. Rick Kane says

I’ve lost Freedos to Phantom on the last two Cats vs. Hawks games, but from his comments here he’s sounds a bit nervous about the Saints game, that’s all.

Freedo/speedos: there’s an image … but I’ll leave that to the psychoanalysts to deconstruct.

    Cheers

  22. Rick Kane says

Good call AF (and ripper song)

  23. Richard Naco says

“Blinded by the Light” is a sensational choice.

Hawks – Bombers game next round should now have some extra venom as sauce after today’s games.

(And this is one happy Catter who travels to Melbourne for the Cats – Bombers the week after that.)

  24. Saw the Buddy bit today, right infront of me.

Hawks fans went quiet and were very upset when I noted it was reportable.

They were even less impressed when the the umpy did and I cheered. Apparently you just don’t do that sort of thing in a Cat’s scarf in the Hawks members stand.

He should get at least two but the AFL will let him off.

    Such is life.

  25. Andrew Fithall says

Fewer than 40,000 at the MCG tonight for the Gee StK game. Obviously P Flynn is not the only discerning spectator who refuses to go and watch St Kilda. And from what I saw tonight, their decision is justifiable. I don’t know if Riewoldt is just unhappy with the poor quality of delivery into the forward line or whether he has lost interest. By game’s end, I thought he looked about ready to announce his retirement.

  26. Tom Hawkins all suited up in the crowd = drop dead GORGEOUS!! <3

  27. Richard Naco says

Tsk tsk tsk, Cus – I have always maintained that you’re a closet Catter.

  28. Richard Naco says

Andrew: or his availability for GWS?

  29. John Butler says

And so we learn that Saint James’ laying of hands upon the afflicted list of Essendon has not a miracle produced.

And that the Dockers and the ‘G don’t mix.

And that it’s so much quieter when the magpies have the week off.

  30. smokie88 says

Have the Dockers ever won at the ‘G ?

  31. Who was it who said that Essendon have plenty of superstars, but they are all in the coach’s box?

They need to get the bloke at the back of the coach’s box to change places with the bloke at the front immediately.

That was always the plan. St James was only the bait to lure Bomber. They need to excecute the plan fully quickly.

  32. Andrew Fithall says

Phantom. The bloke in the back of the box may be a major part of the problem. Here was a bloke whose relationship with his players had broken down, who had lost the confidence of the board, and who, by his own admission was “burnt out”. He departed voluntarily because he needed a break. But he didn’t have that break. He went straight into a similar position but not on the frontline. He is not the sort of person James Hird needs as a support when going through difficulties as a new coach. I reckon Thompson could be poison in that club.

  33. AF – lets hope so!!

  34. The Bombers herrarchy were smart then Andrew. Greed kills.

  35. heirarchy
