Round 10 – Carlton v Geelong: Thanks Bolts

The rhythm of life in Singapore is different to that in Australia. Sometimes I think there is no rhythm here, but maybe I am yet to get in sync (despite 9 years and counting). Because of this I rarely listen to or watch a full game of football. Certainly the performance of recent seasons for the Blues has not warranted that much attention in the first place, but like having four seasons, I miss the rhythm of sporting life.

Yesterday’s game versus Geelong was the first Carlton game that I have listened to in full for a couple of years and what I did notice was a new found sense of enjoyment in listening to them play. Four quarters of effort, control in their play and some real team spirit. Sure, we have a long way to go, but as a supporter you can’t ask for much more than that.

What a difference Brendon Bolton has made at the club. Who could not want this man to succeed. I love to listen to his post match press conference. While he says the same thing over and over again, its because he is on message about his fundamental approach to the game, doesn’t deal in cliches or just agree with statements (as opposed to questions) and is now making the press work harder by asking better questions to get a different response from him.

What I am really trying to say is thank you to Brendon Bolton for reigniting this team and my joy in following the game.

Carlton 16.8.104 def

Geelong 12.13.85

Best: Gibbs, Kreuzer, Curnow

  1. Dips O'Donnell says

Well done DJ. They were too slick and hungry for the alley Cats. Can’t disagree with he votes either.

Ironically I thought Geelong’s best was Henderson.

  2. The People's Elbow says

Bolton’s greatest trick may be making Carlton “likable”…?

  3. Hi Dips – It was hard to tell how Henderson was going from my end as all the Carlton people I follow on twitter were giving him a hard time.

I think you are right Craig, other supporters seem to be liking Carlton more these days. Not sure if it can last.

  4. “Likable”?

Memo to the Litza brothers: Never!

  5. Smokie, anecdotal evidence on my twitter timeline would sug…

  6. djlitsa – glad you’re enjoying the Blues’ current form. Agree that it’s hard to locate a rhythm in Singapore. When every day is forecast to be 33 degrees the seasons as we know them are irrelevant. It takes some getting used to.

I gather that the two former Crows in Kerridge and Matt Wright have been reasonable for Carlton too. Not hard to see you advancing to 7 and 5. Good luck for the rest of the season!

  7. Dave Brown says

Bolton is a different cat, just the sort of cat Carlton needed it seems. Saw an episode of that Carlton doco when I briefly had the pay TV the other night – he brings that level of intensity all the time. Having a team at the ‘exceeding your expectations’ part of the cycle is so much fun. Enjoy!

  8. Has Mick claimed credit for the “dynasty” yet? Mini or maxi?

  9. Tony robb says

The beauty of Bolton is how much worse he makes Malthouse’s tenure look. Gee anyone who can get Everett up and going is a genius

  10. I love Tony Robb. He is as reliable as Chappy.

    Brendon Bolton is seriously interesting.

  11. Thanks for the comments all

Mickey – the two Adelaide boys have fit in nicely, but still, Eddie Betts.

Dave – I saw the first Episode of The Journey and enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to watching more. I saw someone had written when your team is bad, every win is a great surprise and when your team is good every loss a killer.

PB – haven’t heard anything from Mick on the Blues, I think only continued rumblings about Collingwood.

Tony – not to mention Jones kicking a few clutch goals.

JTH – At this rate – I am going to be sending my first fan letter to the club by year end addressed to a Mr B Bolton

  12. E.regnans says

This is all getting out of hand.

  13. John Butler says

DJL, Sunday was a thing of beauty to behold.

Ignore Smokie. One little hostile take-over attempt and he just refuses to move on. That applies to you too, Starkie. I know you’re out there.

Micky, Kerridge and Wright have been very serviceable.

E Reg, this is just getting started.

    Cheers

  14. Hi John – thanks – am looking forward to you writing something on this.

E Reg – John is right – we’ve barely left the gates with Bolts.

  15. Luke Reynolds says

Such an impressive individual is B.Bolton.
Wonder how long the novelty of seeing him do with the Blues what Grumpy Mick couldn’t will last…..
