RIVERLAND SUPERDOGS SEASON 2012 COMMENCES

The Riverland Superdogs AFL Masters Football Club encourage any male over 35 years of age to play the sport under modified rules. As part of the 13-team South Australian AFL Masters competition, the Riverland Superdogs base its training and Sunday fortnightly games at Lyrup Oval and plays an away game once a month.

The club originated in 1984 from Renmark as the Renmark Superdogs by a group of retired footballers. Through word of mouth players beyond Renmark heard of the newly formed club and became interested. In order to broaden its player base, the Riverland Superdogs were formed.

The competition involves no finals and players can come from all sporting backgrounds however two of the club’s most famous players have come from illustrious football careers. They are Ric Frahn (over 400 senior games for Renmark and Paringa) and current coach Shane Healy who has played well over 300 games for Lyrup.

The Riverland Superdogs welcome new players and invite anyone interested to attend Lyrup Oval from 6.30pm on Wednesday evenings followed by a BBQ and refreshments. The first game of 2012 will be against Broken Hill at Lyrup Oval from 4.30pm on Saturday, March 24th. Food and refreshments will be available at the ground and gates open from 3.30pm.
