Richmond Finals 2018: They are coming for us

First week of finals have come and gone. Trent and his lads did a number over the Hawks in a comfortable win that had Tiger supporters thinking about more Grand Final glory.  However, in this now comfortable feeling that Richmond are the dominant side of the comp, I get the feeling there are many who are waiting for us to fall.  Of course there are the supporters of the 17 other teams that would love us to fail.  Carlton, Collingwood and I reckon a few Adelaide supporters are waiting for Richmond to suffer a loss in the Preliminary or the Grand Final.  It has been amazing as many people have congratulated me on the success at Punt Rd in the past 12 months.  There have also been a few who have said this through gritted teeth or have been very open in their contempt for the Tigers.  I had a very fiery confrontation early this season with a couple of North supporters at a pub after they lost a game to Adelaide, once they found out who I supported proceeded to say how lucky Richmond were in 2017 and we would flop like the Bulldogs.   The media as well have gone on for weeks on how to break the Richmond game plan.  Supposedly Alastair Clarkson had the game plan, but that came to nought last Thursday.  Clarkson denied he ever said he had a plan to break the Tigers, but didn’t mention this till the press conference after the game.   As North and West Coast supporters had in the 90’s, the Lions in the noughties and Hawthorn for the last 30 years.  Being a supporter for a top side does have some drawbacks.  However, isn’t this what every supporter no matter the sport wants and desires?  Liverpool supporters dream to be back to the 70’s and 80’s when they were the top club side in the world.  St George supporters think back to the glory days of the 50’s and 60’s where they had to change the rules for the rest of the competition to have a chance.  Of course Port Adelaide would love to dominate the AFL like they did in SANFL for last 40 years.

A favourite comedian of mine Bill Hicks ended a show by saying “It’s Just A Ride”. He explains that life has its ups and downs like a roller-coaster, but remember It’s just a ride.  Richmond currently are on the up and every Tiger supporter should enjoy this ride, because we don’t when it will end.  So enjoy the ride, Tiger Army.

Love your Bill Hicks quote, Dr C. Here is another from a song by my favourite band, the Grateful Dead.

“I may be going to hell in a bucket, baby, but at least I’m enjoying the ride.”

    Enjoy the ride.

  2. Well put, Vaughan. It’s getting pointy now. And I get that the closer we get to the ultimate prize the bigger the schadenfreude from the rest of the world if we slip up. So if the proverbial does hit the fan, and six months of brilliance are undone in a wicked two hours, I’m prepared to cop it sweet and acknowledge a season that’s already provided thrills, joy and admiration of a fantastic team.

    I’ve enjoyed the ride!
