The first Odd Friday Lunch of 2018 is on this Friday, Feb 9. The special guest is Geoff Southby

 

Geoff Southby -played 268 games for Carlton, 2 premierships, AFL Hall of Fame, member of Carlton’s Team of the Century and one of the games hardest and best defenders.

 

From Bendigo, he went to Carlton where in 1971 he took over Wes Lofts’ position and number (20) and won Carlton’s Best and Fairest in his first two years. He played his 200th game under coach Percy Jones in 1980 and missed both the 81 & 82 premiership sides due to injury. He retired in ’83 at age 33.

 

The photo shows Geoff marking over Neil Balme in 1972, Neil (a recent Odd Friday guest) got his own back in the 1973 Grand Final.
Geoff continued his direct involvement in the game for some years including 3 years as aspecialist coach at Fitzroy
