Round 6 – Collingwood v Geelong: Observations from Friday Night

It was good to beat Collingwood on Friday night.

It’s always good to beat Collingwood.

As a matter of fact it’s good to beat anyone.

It was good to see the Tomahawk treating the Pie defenders like rag dolls in the first quarter.

It was good to see the young boy Gregson tearing up Geelong’s half forward line and backing himself in.

It was good watching a Geelong team play the game the way it should be played.

It was good to see Murdoch HARHG!

It was good to see Caddy getting the footy again.

It will be good to see Caddy get the footy and make good decisions.

It was good to see Harry Taylor redeeming himself after a few very ordinary efforts in the early games.

It was good to see the Cats maintain a solid effort across the whole game (the Pies were always going to come at us).

It was good to see Chris Scott coach with cunning and nous (see Blicavs on Pendlebury).

It was good to see Blicavs have a large impact on a game.

It will be good to see Blicavs continually have large impacts on games.

It was good to see the Cats prevail without Bartel, Stokes, Kelly and Mackie.

It was good to see Rivers playing like a Geelong player.

It was good to see Rhys Stanley playing like a Geelong player.

It was good to see Rhys Stanley finally realise how big he is.

Have I mentioned Gregson yet?

It was good to see Motlop running hard in BOTH directions.

It was good to see poise and precision in defence.

It’s always good to see Enright in defence.

It was good to see Lonergan standing alongside Cloke.

I bet Cloke would disagree.

It was good to see Thurlow growing with each possession.

It was good putting some thought into who Thurlow reminds me of (no definitive answer yet).

It was good to see Lang understand how much time he has (doesn’t have) at AFL level.

It will be good to see when Cockatoo understands how much time he has (doesn’t have) at AFL level.

It was tremendous to see Cowan on the park again.

It was horrendous to see Cowan pull his hammy.

It was tremendous to see the support his team mates gave him.

It was awesome to see Selwood playing on with a hand the size of a moon boot.

It was even better to learn it’s not broken.

It was good to see the Cats match the opposition in clearances.

It was good to see the Cats match the opposition in contested ball.

It was disconcerting to see Mitch Clark suffering after the game.

It was good to hear the club getting around him.

It was a marvellous photo of Chris Scott with his arm around Clark after the game.

It was a great reminder that there are more important things than football.

About Damian O'Donnell

I'm passionate about breathing. And you should always chase your passions. If I read one more thing about what defines leadership I think I'll go crazy. Go Cats.

  1. Thanks Dips.

    That was good.

  2. Mathilde de Hauteclocque says

Mickey stole the comment rolling round my head as I read! Very good Dips.
And my Cygnet very happy. The only one of thirty to tip the Cats!

  3. Malcolm Ashwood says

    Accurate summations thanks Dips

  4. haiku bob says

It was good to see that game end, Dips.

  5. Mathilde – I tipped the Cats and the Saints on the weekend. I think that makes me a tipping genius.

  6. Peter Flynn says

    Good one Dips.

    A couple if I may.

It was good see Bews on the improve.

It was good to see Duncan continuing to help Selwood.

  7. E.regnans says

Couldn’t find much good about this game, Dips.
It was good to see J Elliott darting around.
It was sort of good to see Collingwood force a contest after being blitzed at the start.
It was galling to see J White and T Cloke’s best efforts kicking from set shots, when the charge was on.

  8. Mathilde de Hauteclocque says

if only you picked the trifecta with GWS.

  9. Andrew Starkie says

i wanted to tip the Saints; said allweek I was going to; but pulled out Friday. That makes me soft.

Good to s ee the Cats attack, fling the ball around and low and behold, go forward. Who would have thought?

  10. Phillip Dimitriadis says

Fair assessment, Dips. Pies were out-bodied and Bucks out-coached in first half. Mitch Duncan is a beauty. Heart goes out to Mitch Clark. Hope the young man overcomes those pesky demons and lives happily.

  11. If I may:
It is good to see Dips in such fine form.
It is good when Harley (5) calls out: There’s Mitchy. Go Mitchy!
It will be good to see if they can replicate this form when there is opposition. Can’t wait!
it is good to be a Cats fan.

  12. Andrew Starkie says

Ithought ch7cameraman was going to follow Mitch and coach up the corridor. Smart decision by producer to whisper in he ear (if that’s what happened).

  13. Trucker Slim says

Onya Dips, it was good to see my son Jackson standing on the couch cheering in the first half and watching with an almost detached view in the second half, because, as he said, a blow out game ain’t great to watch. He said this through a Cheshire cat smile.

  14. Never in doubt Trucker, never in doubt. Jackson’s resilience levels have just increased.

  15. Is Dips Is Good

  16. Dips, I suspect this is the first footy report to channel Ecclesiastes.

If you send it to Athol Guy I reckon the Seekers can make a song out of it.

  17. Therese Black says

    Love it Dips!
You’ve got those boys worked out..
Have struggled with the Cats thus far, but just loved that first quarter!

  18. Luke Reynolds says

It was good to be at home instead of at the ‘G watching this game
It was good to be able to switch over and watch the soccer at 1/4 time instead
It was good to turn off my phone and ignore the messages from my (many) Cats supporting mates
    It was a good article.

    Well done Dips. And Geelong.

  19. JTH – hilarious. Your comment might be the only time in human history that Ecclesiastes and Athol Guy have appeared in the same thought pattern.
