Almanac Racing: New Year but old habits – defying logic again!

The Oscietra push was always FWD but at least helped get a few through the Flemington gates (when they were belatedly opened to huge queues for one ticket window) and her run was quite encouraging – though the odds were criminal. She ran like they do in trials; fast out and impressive. Trials don’t test the bottom and, left hanging in front, she found nowt when pressured. As is so often the case in juvenile races, one with a run under the belt was too strong. When will we learn? Not this week it seems, because I’m ready to butter up on debutante Siam (MR1, 1100m, 2yo, SWP) against Hayes’ ultra impressive spruik Valley winner Catchy – which beat Limesstone, Oscietra’s conqueror, that night. Foolhardy I know, with Lindsay Park’s youngsters firing, but it’ll be odds on and mine about 7/1.

When that strategy unravels, I’ll need help getting out.

Good luck!

  1. Have my head buried in online form at the moment and uncompleted, however a couple do stand out as value in Melb to me. Race 7, if you’re willing to risk Weiry’s at the short price (I just thought too short) maybe Manhattan Boss and Houdini the Great were chances at big odds. The fav is very short, a couple of these are Group type horses and giving them a big difference in price. Race 8 very keen Chance to Dance, took the $8 early and happy with that. Assuming it’s ready I think it wins.
Back to the form now…hopefully you guys can help me into something as well :-)

  2. Dederang Picnics today. I have to work tonight so I’m not doing a big drive in the heat !

None the less they should get a god turn out in Dederang. Yours truly will sit in the lounge, look at Nick Heywood’s rides in Warwick Farm, have abo-peep at Morphetville, then invest accordingly..

    Happy punting.

    Glen!

  3. I’ve got the air cond on warp factor 10 and hoping the cricket can last to the first race although that’s looking doubtful.
I’m 100% with Higgo on Chance to Dance, backed it first up last time and a great run. Today with 54.5 kg should win. I will also try Grey Street in the 5th which had 6 weeks off to its previous run and winkers my sharpen it up a bit.
In Adelaide there isn’t too much to get excited about, in race 5 Deiheros was a much better run last start and may be getting close and Trueno in race 7 is some chance at odds if it can get a run through the field, there’s lots of speed and he is good fresh on a hard track.

  4. Thanks urgers…as written, I assume that I’ll be chasing after MR1. Jock, my gameplan is very similar here. cricket and races (though there’s a Bulldogs DVD!!)

  5. Crio, compliments on a great contradiction re they need a run and then going for a first upper, 100% turnaround in a sentence. I’m also chilling up the first batch of Jock beer in the fridge and planning a 3 pm taste.

  6. As suspected, Hayes’ 2yo was too good, but vets have reported that Siam had thumps
    Forgive but don’t forget
