Knacker a finalist in National Playwright competition

Almanacker Neil Anderson is a finalist in this year’s National Playwright Competition and will perform his play, ‘Michelangelo Wore Blundstones’, later this month.

Three finalists will have their plays performed and produced by the Kew Court House Arts Association, previously known as the Boroondara Theatre Company, on October 18, 19and 20(includings a 3pm matinee on the 20th) at the Richmond Library Theatrette, 413 Church St Richmond (near Swan Street).

Neil’s play is about a house-painter in the burbs who takes on a painting/renovation job that has no end in sight.

He has been successful in this competition previously with two seconds and one third placing so hopes to go one better next week.

These plays are one-act plays of about 30 minutes duration each, so they do lessen the chance for people to nod off and there is nothing too arty if people are thinking of attending. No footy stories this time unfortunately.

For bookings phone 0450 572 522.

About Neil Anderson

Enjoys reading and writing about the Western Bulldogs. Instead of wondering if the second premiership will ever happen, he can now bask in the glory of the 2016 win.

Thanks to JTH, Cookie and Co. for the play promo. It was nice to be listed at least on the same page as Damian Callinan who along with Carl Barron is my favourite comedian. A slight correction in the article. I am one of the playwrights who submitted their script for judging and the organizers from the Kew Court House Arts Association audition actors to perform the three winning plays. The 1,2,3 placings are announced on opening night which is 18th October. So I am definitely no performer but I have been lucky enough to have seen five of my plays produced and performed over the last seven years by entering these type of competitions.

All the best with this. And congrats.

    Is there a web link?

Like most amateur theatre groups, they are largely run by volunteers and usually one or two stalwarts who initiated the competition in the first place. That means there is never enough money for advertising etc. This is a shame when it does give writers from all over Australia somewhere to submit their work with a chance to see it produced and performed. I would say there is only about six of these type of competitions in Australia.
The Kew Courthouse website reflects the lack of manpower to keep things ticking over and probably needs a Cookie- type person to keep things up to date.
