  1. Phil Dimitriadis says

Harmsy, while I begrudgingly admire Browny, I reckon he looks more like Hymie
    from Get Smart.

  2. PeterSchumacher says

    Right on!

  3. Neil Anderson says

Saw Browny on the Footy Show and he reminded me me of my country cousins in Warrnambool during the 1960’s. Maybe he is a distant cousin…except for the gambling and the drinking…and possibly the fact that he is an elite footballer.
His image is drawn on the wall of one the pubs in Warrnambool and covers half a block, so it will take some scrubbing off when he does retire.
Hope the Lions go hard and win tonight and then take it easy against the Bulldogs in Round 1.

  4. Adam Muyt says

Will miss Browny when he retires, he’s been the heart and soul of the club for several years. Particularly sad for us Royboy Lions when it happens as he’s been such a great promoter of the Fitzroy heritage.
As for tonight, an interesting Roys connection – and one likely never to be repeated – is that both clubs are captained by SORs. In Murphy’s case, his old man John was an absolute gun at the Roys winning several B&Fs and playing more than 200 games at the club.
    Go Roys!

  5. Skip of Skipton says

Big Jon Brown’s dad played 50 games for the ‘roys. That qualified for a Father/Son gig back in the time. Big Jon wanted to play for the Lions.

Compare with John Murphy’s 200 odd games, five b&fs, etc. and sonny boy who didn’t want to play for Brisbane or leave the nest. Now he’s the captain of Carlton. LOL.

  6. Tigers, Pies, Cats, Eagles, Crows. I look forward to Mick being 0-5. I would love to see him jawboning “long term vision” and “it takes a while to get used to a new game plan.” Code for “this mob are a shower”.

  7. IF I’m not mistaken Darkie, Brownie snagged five 2 nite.

Didn’t look tired or even off the pace. good solid performance all round.

Of course as you say he should be playing for Geelong. A Warrnambool boy who jogged around in the under-18s at the Geelong Falcons with Lingy.

    Nuff said!

  8. J Brown looked very good for much of the night. Hope he remains fresh.

Didn’t the Lions come back inside beautifully all night. I thought I was watching Geelong there for a moment. Great use of the corridor.

Not sure why there is hype about Carlton.

  9. I;ll never forget meeting Jonathan Brown when i was sixteen. i was so scared to approach him and when i did he towered over me like a grizzly bear as he signed the paper. i was terrified and in awe at the same time, ill never forget thinking that the pen was going to snap in his hand as he was signing the autograph.
Great player, can’t get any tougher than big J. Brown.

  10. Andrew Starkie says

Harmsy, will never forget many moons ago a mate saying ‘You should see Mugsy’s nephew play. Thinks he’s Carey.’ He was talking about our mate Mugs and Browny, about 12 at the time. Browny’s a real footballer. Old school.

  11. I saw a bit of him on the footy show. Hard to go past him drawing blood on Sam Newman with a whacking umbrella for a career highlight.
