Memories: Birthday Blues (part 2)

Now where was i ?  These seniors moments can be quite challenging.

The nags have long been of interest.  I recall going to the trots at the Show Grounds when i was young, also  going to the horse sales with friends who were cockies, and of course many different race meetings, at quite a few different tracks.

I’ve been to Cups; Avoca, Berrigan, Corowa, Melbourne, Yea,  are just some of the cup meetings i’ve attended. This year i plan to attend the annual races at Ardlethan , something which we’ve talked about for a while,  so i’m looking forward to the running of the  2013 Ardlethan Picnic Cup.

Horses; the ‘Goondiwndi Grey’, Gunsynd, Black Caviar, Makybe Diva, Rose of Kingston, Manikato, Magistrate, Alle Bijou, Mooball, Sir Talaq,  are some of the  horses i’ve appreciated.  Different in many ways but i’ve appreciated all of them for their equine skills, and the returns they’ve given me.

Hoops; the greats such as Roy Higgins, Damien Oliver stick in the mind as great riders.  Malcolm Pay was another favourite of my youth. On the rural circuits, Peter Robl, and “Nifty” Neville Wilson have been good to my “skyrocket”.  “Handbrake Harry”, has a  superb record, but never when i backed him.

It’s many years since i’ve been to the trots, but i have fond memories of Junee in December 1984,when I had financially  succesful  night, then an intriguing drive back to Wagga. The last time i went to the trots was  Moonee Valley back in 1987. A long time ago

If people  venturing around the inner Northern suburbs wish to talk to me more about my sporting memories,  i will be at the Lomond Hotel from 2-00 pm this Sunday 10/2, having a birthday bevvy. Maybe see youse then,

Glen!
