Loving Matty ‘Vincent’ Q

In the comments section after Matt Quartermaine’s recent Almanac Dinner: Yoshi lights up the North Fitzroy Arms post, Dips mentioned that he wanted a painting of Matty Q’s mug on the cover of next year’s Footy Almanac. I then responded by offering to paint something in a Van Gogh-esque theme, due partly to Quarters current hirsute chin and also in dedication to the upcoming Loving Vincent film release.

Well my easel is currently occupied with a canvas on which I’m working so the rushed effort below will just have to do for now!

  1. Love your work, J-Mew, there’s a definite Van-Goghesqueness about it.
I’ve yet to meet Matty Q, but know that his father played for the mighty East Perth Royals, while one of Matt’s brothers, Bill, was my K-Grade coach at Trinity-Aquinas (WA Ammos) many years ago.

  2. Brilliant Jen. Wonderful painting. But I think you have misunderstood me. I said that the LAST thing I want on the cover of the Almanac is Matty Q’s big face.

What I would like is a Van Gogh-esque painting of Yoshi’s chicken wing pose. Can you produce one of those?

  3. Jennifer Muirden says

Dips, maybe I was sleep deprived when I read your comment… no matter, I’m certainly up for the challenge of doing a Van Gogh-esque painting of Yoshi’s chicken wing pose. I’ll give it a whirl. Standby….

Fitzroy Pete, surprised you’ve never met Matt Quartermaine given you’re a fellow comic writer among your many other talents. Hopefully some day soon you’ll make the trip across the Nullarbor and get to know fellow Almanackers. : )

  4. Phillip Dimitriadis says

Great stuff ‘Never call me Jenny’ – Matty Q looks so benevolent , almost Zen-like

  5. Indeed, Jen, I’m long overdue for a trip to Melbourne, hopefully to watch your beloved Saints have a win (since the Mighty Royboys are long gone from the AFL scene).
Yes, I haven’t yet met Matty Q, but will hopefully do so one day when I attend an Almanac function in Melbourne (the ones I’ve gone to in Perth have been excellent).
Thanks for the compliment, Jen – when time permits, I do like to brush up on my nude handstand-on-hot-coals party trick. (-:]

  6. Hey my good friend and fellow Sainter Jen!

Good work on painting and I can’t wait seeing your paint of my Judd’s chicken wing!

    All the best

    Yoshi

  7. Love it Jenn – but he’s got too many ears.

  8. Jennifer Muirden says

Thanks Harmsy. But I made it ambiguous enough such that he actually appears to have only one.

Yoshi’s chicken wing manoeuvre’s not far away. Stay tuned!

  9. Jennifer Muirden says

Hey there Perth Pete, your nude handstand on hot coal sounds like a great party trick. It may even just top Yoshi’s chicken wing performance which has been highly rated by reputable sources. If impressive enough maybe you’ll be a muse for my next painting?!?

  10. Jen, I think I’d battling to outdo Yoshi’s renowned chicken wing trick, which, by all accounts, has had one million hits on YouTube. Very happy to be a muse (ment) for any painting you might have planned.

  11. Jennifer Muirden says

Ah, ever grammatically correct and astute Fitzroy Pete! Yes, of course, a ment is much more apt! Perhaps my strengths lie elsewhere?!

The Yoshimeister has become a cartoon character in his own right!! Perhaps we should defer to Matty Q to decide just who Yosh represents? Astro Boy, perhaps? Fearless Fly?!

    What do others think?!?

  12. I’m a bit worried I might lose my marbles (-:] if I was a painter’s muse for too long, Jen.
I think I’d be too easily distracted by artists coming and going.
The Yoshimeister could well become the 21st-century’s latest AFL superhero, resplendent in his St Kilda cape, warding off evil doers (Collingwood 2010 premiership players).

  13. Jennifer Muirden says

A ha!! That’s it he can be the new improved Trevor Saint our super daggy muscle bound Saints mascot. Or how about Sainturion?!. Now that’s a painting I really want to tackle!!!

  14. Stone Cold Steve Baker says

“He is a loathsome, offensive brute but I cannot look away…”

  15. Jennifer Muirden says

Ah Stevie Baker, how very lovely to hear from you. It has been way too long between drinks, matey! Strangely enough, Matt seems to have gone all shy all of a sudden. Wonder what he makes of his quirky Matty ‘Vincent” Q portrait…
